Okay, after playing another game with the TEC, it has oficially become my second most liked race to play. The hoshiko/high health works even better than the Advent's counterpart, the Mothership/guardian. This is partially because of the early techs which help it to become increasinlgly more effective, but mostly because it's much easier to use. On one side, we have the hoshiko's, for whom you only need three war research centres to get.
On the other hand, we have the guardians, which also need three research centres. However, the Mothership also takes up a capital ship slot.

I still like the Advent more though.

I choose to not choose, and always play Random. :)

I could go into the details, but basically I'm an Advent because I stay the most consistant with them through the whole game. Beginning I am up and running quickly, endgame I still have the ability to create powerful fleets. In between, good balance. Important thing to remember when choosing a race though is that there is no wrong decision. There are people rallied behind every one, and each is good in its own way. The trick is harnessing it.

it seems everyone heres going either either for advent or vasari.

I myself love the advent. all the special abilities of the capital ships and support cruisers make for a deadly fleet even with inferior 'i shoot you' capabilities. I kinda wish their superweapon or culture in general could be more effective though. Takes 2 superweapons dedicatedly taking turns firing on one planet for half an hour to actually have it overthrown, and if you forget to fire on it for too long its alliegance will be right back up to max x(

but the other superweapons don't take planets.  well... i guess the novalith cannon can, but only low health ones.  it would be nice to have the Kostura Cannon buffed a little tho.

Well actualy if you want to rush you would choose TEC. They have a kick ass economy. So when you play TEC you should keep in mind that you invest in quantity not quality. But the TEC are quite fun to play as I found. Their ships look quite cool, and you get a nice challenge from playing with them.

Isn't the idea that you play with a race that fits well with you, not one that's challenging to wield?

Yeah, I'm definantly a TEC kind of guy. Once the economy get rollin, even if I lose 100+ ships, I can replace them in under 10 minutes. You just gotta keep hammering them and watch out for subjegators. I hate those sooo much.

But anyways, TEC is my favoritve. I like the looks, the economy is nearly unstoppable, losses are easily replaced, and they also have really good armor and hull points, even if they are lacking in the shield department.

Vasari are the GODS of gurilla tactics.

All # planets are mine, all letter planets are comp (Advent).

O1 HOME *terran              OA Home *Terran

O2 Static D *Asteriod        OB *Asteriod

O3 Refinaries *Ice            OC *Desert

O4 Tech *Desert               OD *Volcano

O5 Refinaries *Volcano      OE *Volcano

O6 Static D *Volcano          OF-OH *Terran

by using 2 of the flying eggs with vortex, some carriers, and portals, I was able to beat the unfair comp who had a larger fleet and more money and planets. As you can see on the map he has 3 more planets, all of them being Terran which sucks. I had portals on every planet and phase inhibitors which kept me alive for more than I should have been allowed. I was fighting hard to get those Terran planets but the comp wouldnt let that fly and was using all his reasources and fleets to keep it that way, and the portals were the key. I took my fleet of 30 carriers, 10 enforcers, and my 2 flying eggs both w/ vortex from planet O6 and flew them to O2, then I traveled to OB. One vortex kill off his asteroid and the carriers killed everything else off. I was absoluty uncontested, I then hit him where it hurt, the Homeworld. So i went from OB to OA and with 2 vortexs and alternated with my 2 eggs, i Killed his HW in less than 2 minutes killing his tech while i was there. I then went from OA to OC, got one vortex in when his fleet finally came and ran past them from OC to OD. I didnt bother to stop and made a bypass through the sun. Then i turned my fleet and got the Terran planet from O5-O6-OH.I had killed 3 1/2 planets, destroied 50% of his econ and his ?tech?, and only lost 1 carrier. Thanks portals and flying eggs! Get the portals upgrade, and get the max on the Gravity well phase jump reduction tech. It saved my caps 3 times and makes retreating and going through suns worth it as you can phase jump t shorter from the planet. Vasari PWNS!!!!!

Hey, I can make up forum stories too. Once I beat a Vasari player by scout rushing him. See? It's easy to make things up to bolster your case!

Once I beat a Vasari player while playing Advent by using MARZA!

Oh, wait.

Wrong thread.

Once, I was having a hard time fighting two comps. And then I realized, why fight when I can just use Marza? And I did, and I won.

I know tec the best atm. I am tending to more vasari though.

I am a definitive Vasari player.  my favorite weapon would have to be the Devastator, though.  I always start with a space egg, but that's usually all that i build of that type cap.  my last game against 3 hard AIs i ended up with one egg, two marauders, 3 desolators, 3 carriers, and 7 devastators.  but that was mainly because the TEC i was against loved to rush his fleet right into mine.  with only one cap in it.  But after I took his gateway world at the star, his fleet was continually on the run.

the Vasari fleet when maxed fleet points is much more powerful than anything else out there.

can't a guy like a challenge?

i prefer tec. a) theyre human! (advent doesnt count) b) they play well towards my preferred strategy, namely, turtling
moral is, pick a playing style first, then decide which race fits best

edit: the smiley face is supposed to be a 'b'

Well, I think I will name one of my devestators the "Orodum"

The reason I didn't start with the TEC is because they are human! I wanted to be aliens! Then, I played Advent because they are more alien-ish than the TEC. Finally, after many long campaigns, I played as TEC. Before I finished the game though, I updated and could no longer play it. I am happy to play nonhumans, except for when I occasionally play Advent.

Well, thank you.  as long as it isn't the kamikaze one.  The Edoc'sil has only been destroyed once.  (The Edoc'sil is my first Devastator - always)

Is there a race that you can be free to play a game at your own pace with?

I've heard that you'd pick TEC if you plan on taking a game by storm in the first 30 mins to an hour...

Will any of them play well for a really long game?

PS: plz o plz dont be advent -crosses fingers- ;)

Vasari. It takes a while to build things and stuff costs more, so you have to wait, which makes them ideal for long games. Vasari FTW!!!

oh, and just so you know, "Orodum" means fate.  I was bored and had a cross language dictionary laying around

does that mean vasari ships and things are more powerful than the others???

(you could still play as any faction and be able to play long games effectively right???)
