yes, and yes. although the Vasari fleet is quite powerful when it hits the fleet cap. the best bet to beat it is an Advent fleet, with the "culture cannon" damage bonus. TEC is a bit harder to defeat it, though.

it comes from experience. against a hard AI, huge TEC fleets prove no problem, but the Advent are sometimes a different story. its been too long since i've played against them (i play random enemies, and my last 3 games, i haven't encountered an Advent ship. my 18 hour game i had one as an enemy, but they were destroyed before I even saw them)

Dwarven language. it's from the Inheritance series(eragon), actually. I used the same username for the forum on that, but decided not to change it for here (easier to remember)
and 18 hours is the longest game I've played.
Okay here are my other ship names: The Annatar, the Kyroge12, the Vasari Dawn, the Imperial, and the Rakulas. (I plan to rename tha Rakulas the Ron Lugge, I just haven't done it yet.:wink:)

The Tec have good armor but weak shields. Their strength lies in their economy which can really help mid game. I like the TEC for their long range combat abilities (especially the novalith) but their culture spreads slowly which can hurt your economy.
I like the vasaries armor and raw firepower they can bring to bare on an enemy. The phase gates allow for great manuverability and hit an run attacks. The main disadvantage is a weak culture and mediocre economy.
The advent have some great abilities (clensing brilliance, malace, etc.) their culture spreads faster than the other factions which can be useful and they have good firepower after its upgraded. Some of their ships can really make any fleet pack a powerful punch (illuminators) The disadvantage is that the advents economy sucks and you need to almost constantly research upgrades in order to survive.
Advent is the most fun in late game. I used to not mind Vasari late game, but many thing shave changed. Like there is only one cap for Vasari now, Subverters were nerfed, and RA was nerfed...
Advent - strong shields, weak hull; weak but many strikcraft; most powerful in abilities, least in weapons; strong culture (damage bonus in-culture)
TEC - weak shields, strong hull; medium strength and number of strikcraft; more powerful in straight dps than abilities; Strong economy (pervasive economy)
Vasari - medium shields, medium hull; high strength but few in squadron strikcraft; medium dps and abilities; Best phase research (phase gates, RA)
