I have seen other people mention moving starbases.  I am no scifi fanatic but I consider myself a fan.  On what is everybody basing movng starbases on?  I know B5 never moved, and DS9 only moved once when it was moved closer to the wormhole but o'brien said it was not made to be moved, plus they had to do some special things to get it to move.  i remember them saying in other episodes if it went through the wormhole it would be torn to bits.

IMO, starbase weapons need to be able to reach the whole gravity well or they need some special abilities, like being able to claim ownership or part ownership on non-colonizable sectors.  Then you can build in them.

I agree wit the increased range, and they shouldn't be so easy to get around

The best solution I've care up with is to narrow the lanes when the base is present so you can't jump right past it.

The suppression isn't a good idea unless it's an upgrade, but if you could narrow the jump area to be closer to the white line then placing the base in the correct path would be a lot more useful

as it stands now, you can jump while being pretty far from the phase lane and the base can't even get a shot off - especially if you time the previous jump location to be right in line with the next jump location.

Moving Starbases is a weird idea that surfaced on the forums because the bases are currently ineffective in protecting their gravity wells and dealing with enemy fleets. The Vasari base is useful because it can actually move so some posters want the other two bases to move as well.

But there are other ways for Starbases to be useful even if they are stationary (like they should!). I wish people would give IC a chance to tweak the Starbases before demanding them being turned into giant ships. They are bases, not ships. They just need extreme long range weapons and abilities that currently don't seem all that extreme.

Ya, weapons range could be 1/2 the gravity well for some of their guns, and a bit closer in for others.  Movement problem solved!

All Starbases need one weapon with unlimited range.

Missiles for TEC, Psionic Surge for Advent. Well the Vasari one can move so it doesn't need one. :P

Random note: DS9 could move. It could just move really slowly. They did a funky thing to it because they didn't have 2 weeks to get it to it's new location. :)

I don't think moving starbases are the answer to this problem. Then they're just bigger ships.

why do so many people want moving starbases? its a starBASE not a juggernaught class ship or sumin crazy like that :s though a juggernaught would be fun lol

They definitely need to be refined.  Right now Vasari have the best starbase because you can move it.  The others are way too cripped to be useful.  There are huge inequities (as the developers are aware).  I'm sure we'll see some balancing soon.

I know B5 never moved, ...
End of ohiomike12's quote

Ii is not because something have never moved that it can't move...

From http://www.b5tech.com/babylonproject/babylon5station/babylon5station.html :

"Babylon 5 does have a series of thruster engines however, used in maintaining its location at the L5 point."

And Babylon 4 was made to be mobile, with a huge ion motor...

Seem logic that station can move... almost all actual satelite have truster for correct position ( of altitude correction of direction correction )... more modern one use ion truster ( little trust but long time working )... it is not science fiction but science...

Maybe having the starbase emit a jump nullifier and tractor for an area of 270 degrees of the grav well.  The area is provided when you make the starbase so you need to pay attention a little.  That way a fleet still has the option of jumping out of the system back the way it came but cant go around the station as they will get drawn towards it and its weapon range.  Its just a thought but it might solve the problem a little.

Please however argue the point if you dont think it would work.
