WinCustomize 2K9 concepts

WinCustomize 2K9 concepts

image

The new WinCustomize is going to be a radical departure from what we have today.

In the web 2.0 age, we can do a lot of interesting things that should greatly improve the navigation of the site. The days of clicking, waiting for the page to load, clicking, waiting for the page to load and so forth will go away.

Instead, the site will feel more akin to a desktop application. Want to see the most popular skinners, click on tab and it'll expand to show it.

The site will end up being far cleaner, far faster, and far easier to use than what we have today.

please, dear Lord... :\ or.. Brad.. as the case may be.. bring back 'last post read' function.

Having to constantly click last page and then scroll down to the bottom should be unheard of on todays forums.

I totally agree. This is the only site I know of that uses that terminology and it's totally confusing.

Ahh .  .  the joy of having a newsgroup heritage. (news://news.stardock.com)  It may be archaic. .  but I like it!

Hasnt worked for me since it stopped working months and months ago... anyone else?

Doesn't matter what thread I open.. always always... page 1. Of course in the main forum u can click last post.. but that only takes u to the last post..not the last one u read. :waaaa: and I usually navigate from the Recent Activity list anyway... page 1 everytime. X|

If you select nothing and click the quoate button it qoutes the whole post (with name info, etc).  If you select text and use the quote button it just quotes what you selecdted.

Any reason the author/reply# couldn't be included with the snip quotes, too?

I've already said that's not what I am referring to.. That takes you to last post.. not.. last post read.. which could be a page or two back. Which is how I described it previous to this.

Is that working for anyone?

Additionally, if you browse from 'Recent Forum Activity'  the last post button on forum page is moot.

Umm . . no.  It takes you to last post read.  Based on cookies.

I'm all for speed and faster previews. To be able to change the look of the page would be great. As one example, here's a shot of how Roger's Yahoo lets you skin (hope my upload works properly)...

That button functions as Zubaz describes here - takes me to the last reply I read in that particular thread.  I'd prefer that simply selecting the article/thread would default to the most recently read reply, however, which is what I remember used to be the case, but not the end of the world if that never happens again.

Aren't those the things you're devoting to Wincustomize 2k9 Concepts?  ;)

These are just things for the Suggestion Box, after all.

A note for everyone.  WinCustomize Site is not the same as WinCustomize Forums.  Two different sets of code, two completely different projects.  While the look and feel of the new WC will likely be brought over to the forums, this update project isn't about extending or changing forum functionality.  If some gets in when we're not looking, that's cool, but I wouldn't expect it.

Just to add to that....it's actually three sites...and 3 sets of code.  There's the Admins'/mods' site which accesses the database for moderation/approvals.  That one's only used by a few people so it's languishing a bit back into the last millennium [almost]...;)

The one mentioned/shown by Frogboy is actually the Skin site itself, not the forums...;)
