[Possible Fix]Sins & Entrenchment Immediately Crash Upon Launch

Updated both today and now neither will run.  If I try to verify their installations, Impulse claims they're installed incorrectly and lets me try and update.  The update still crashes just the same and another verify procedure says it's still installed wrong.

Time to uninstall/reinstall both?

Edit:  Great, I've got this as well now when trying to uninstall:

There is an error in XML document (28,8).

Hmm, saw that thread.  Only created this one because I've never been able to even get in the game since the update.  I'm trying to reinstall now.

Edit:  tiberius' suggestion does nothing for me as that's what I tried first.  My original problem is that verification and update resulted in the same game launch crashes followed by it telling me to update again.

Uninstalled Sins and re-downloaded the entire thing.  Game crashes to the send report screen upon launch.  *sigh*

Update:

Sins briefly verified as being installed correctly, but would not run.  Verified Entrenchment and updated it when it was wrong.  Game ran.  Entrenchment still says it's installed incorrectly.  In summation, game gets to opening menu now, but both Sins and Entrenchment selections on Impulse say they're installed wrong and need to be updated endlessly.

So yeah, color me confused.  There was a 23 MB update for Sins and a 7 MB update for Entrenchment.  Second update for Entrench was a few kilobytes.  Now regular Sins wants the 23 MB update again.  *bash head on keyboard*

After running the game for a few minutes, I notice that any units having to do with Entrenchment have missing UI icons.  Phasic cloaking, Detonate ability, Raloz and Ogrov cruisers, etc.  I think I'm going to bed, but I assume the fix is to wipe Entrenchment.  Guess all I can do is archive Sins and then wipe everything related to the Stardock files.

Have you tried *just* getting entrenchment? Ignore regular Sins.

Yes.  I've verified and updated multiple times.  Still says its install is incorrect.  On the last update just now, it removed the Sins icon from the My Games windows.  That's new.  Ran the game again and lots of Entrenchment-related UI icons are not present.  It does run though which is different than most of the night.

Edit:  Just updated Entrenchment twice more.  Both times the update size was about 5 KB.  Now, Sins returns to the My Games window along with the beta expansion.  I'm officially weirded out.

I think what Blair was saying was to not have them both installed.  Install regular Sins OR Entrenchment.

That'd be easier to do if Entrenchment allowed itself to be uninstalled so I could even experiment with it.  And with Sins uninstalled, it won't allow me to install Entrenchment by itself.

Sorry I don't know much more about the installation process through Impulse. :( Give [email protected] a shout, they should know a lot more and be able to help.

Impulse won't let me install regular Sins (from 1.12 archive) and update it to 1.13 - it keeps wanting to take it the whole hog with Entrenchment as well.

I had a similar problem: clicking on Single or Multi-Player in the main menu produced a minidump. After I removed custom maps from the galaxy-game-folder (not the one in AppData) it worked again.

I just want to post to say that I have the exact same problem as Mazuo.

Just so you know Blair, it's not just through Impulse.  Trying to use the add/remove programs option in Windows just sputters and fails when trying to get rid of Entrenchment.  No error message at all, it just does nothing.  I'm thinking my only option currently is to manually delete folders, run a registry cleaner and reinstall everything.

I'm going to try and find my game disc however before doing this to avoid the 700+ MB download again.  It's gone missing on me for the time being.  XO

I'll report back when I eventually get this straightened out.

i already tried using cd, still doesnt work. Whenever i install orig sins, impulse still thinks teh beta is installed and instantly links it. turning into a giant pain in the ass. I just bought this and have not gotten it to work once
