[Request] Buff to Vasari Repair Structure - Edited 3-26-09

Here's the current status:

TEC start out at 20 hp/sec and upgrade to 40 hp/sec.  With culture bonus upgrades, they will never run out of AM.  Add in Horoshiko's and you get 60 hp/sec.

Advent get 30 hp/sec.

Vasari are stuck at 15 hp/sec.

Now I know that according to the story line, Vasari are the attackers and TEC are the defenders.  However, now it's ENTRENCHMENT.  Vasari get flat out boned.  Is there a way to give them a buff to help them out?  Perhaps a tier 2 or 3 tech?  Here's some ideas:

  • Perhaps an upgrade that would allow the repair bays to stack
  • Perhaps an upgrade to repair rate like TEC
  • Perhaps an upgrade to boost armor while in range of a repair bay
  • Perhaps an upgrade to have an AoE passive (i.e., no AM cost) repair effect (5 hp/sec).

Thoughts?

No-cost decent repair ability for all ships nearby?

5 hp/sec is crap.  It's a perk, and nothing more.

Sounds far too powerful.  No-cost decent repair ability for all ships nearby?  No thanks.

How many ships really get damaged at once? Even in an epic scale fleet battle, it's hard to find more than 10 ships getting attacked at once. Search beyond those ships, and how many have been hurt enough to lose their shields and start suffering hull damage? Reply back when you've found one. Be sure to post a replay and mark the time that it happens.

So no, a passive repair to everything in range is not THAT bad. If anything, it'll find more use healing cargo ships than combat ships.

Considering the original complaint is regarding the other races having repair rates just a few hp higher for a single target, I fail to see how a free area-wide 5hp/sec that's always on is somehow balanced.

Could something be done to make Vasari repair better while keeping the game balanced?  I have little doubt.  The suggestion I responded to sounds silly and broken.

The reason I suggested it is because Vasari already have AoE repair ability, so why not be able to tech it for the repair station?

Also, by getting you 5 hp/sec, whichever target was the focus of the repair facility, with it's 15 hp/sec, that target would actaully be getting 20 hp/sec.

I think it also solves the problem that Vasari has of running out on AM, as you can turn off the auto-cast and slowly let your fleet repair while not costing you AM.

The best way to make a "passive area regen" work is to have it boost natural regen rates. Natural hull regen is cut in half in combat, so any type of bonus would be far more useful out of battle.

Typical passive hull regen for Vasari ranges from 1-1.5 hull/sec(it seems to be identical for each race). It's increased from research, and capital ships get a bit more from levels.

A passive ability that gave even a whopping +200% natural hull repair would be +2-3hull/sec, stretching to around 5hull/sec on high end caps. In battle the bonus is halved. It's a pretty minor bonus, but would be fitting for Vasari.

That certainly sounds more reasonable and in line with the lore of the Vasari.

While I agree, the simple fix for this would just be changing the hull repair rates for the existing hull research.

I guess what I like more about the structure aura to ships is you could think of it that Vasari nanites are always doing what they can in or out of battle.  The structure then could have an ability like Nanite Amplifier or Nanite Control, something like that, with the idea being that it refocuses their tasks so they repair faster, a feat not possible when they need to be worrying about the latest hole that just got blown in the side of the hull.
