can you name each of your capital ships?
In the lower-center of the screen where the unit portrait is, click the orange up arrow. You can name planets, as well.
can someone explain how you get your ships into formation and how you create fleets?
To create a fleet, select the ships you want in it, click on the tactical management button and then create fleet (shortcut is F - F). Fleeted ships will make a formation, line ships in the front, scouts/flak mid, long range/supports back. Capital ships will also take these positions according to their role (battleships will be in front, colonizers in back). One ship is made the fleet leader (the ship with the solid white border when you select). You can change this by using tab before you form the fleet.

Download the Forge Tools pack from the site's Downloads section (button on top of the page). Extract it with WinRar or 7Zip, go into the Documentation folder and read Sins_modset.pdf. All shall be explained
