worst loosers i've ever seen in mp

longest match ever.....

Today I joined a 2v2 against Knight of Nine and Free Lancer, on a custom map free lancer had made. there was 2 solar systems, and it took over 5 minutes to go from one planet to another (i'm not kidding). still, i thought "oh well, it's different from the ordinary maps at least."

about 1 1/2 hours later, the enemy in my solar system was defeated while i was feeding my ally enough to keep his at bay. then i run my forces down to the other solar system which took at least 15-20 minutes -only to jump from 1 star to the other- (again. not kidding). add the 15 or so mins it took to jump to the star.

that in itself is not so bad though, what was worse that when it was obvious they were loosing, Free Lancer said... i quote "i will keep you up all night!", and said "if you want to sleep, surrender." he also went on a name-calling frenzy, to take an example he called my teammate a bit**. it took close to an hour to set up manufacturing bases at the "front line" in the solar system, which was still 10-15 mins of travel-time away from the front.

by then i also had 6 novaliths spamming from the other solar system since he refused to surrender. i think it took roughly 1-1 1/2 hour for the first shot to arrive. (again just to point out the freaky size of the map), all in all it took close to 6 hours to root him out, since he defended with 25 drone hosts and over 150 illums. this was before i got my frigate factories up in his system, and he claimed to have rebuilt all of it before the first nova strike hit, and before i got my fleet set up with enough hard counter to wipe the floor with him (even though it would still take a huge amount of time due to his numbers)

if there is a god he took mercy on us, since after the 6 hours Free Lancer's game crashed, which basically saved me and my ally in between 1-2 hours in game time to root him out.

that being said, don't be surprised if you play against those two and they drag the match out as endlessly as they can when they start to loose. And dont ever let free lance host and choose the map. i can't see any other reason than him choosing such a crazy map except for aiding in his dragging-out-the-game-endlessly strategy and trying to make the winning teams log.

I know that I for one, will never, ever play against either Free Lance or Knight of Nine again. Now I will go sleep, even though it's morning...........

wow. the long distances seem really excessive. i would agree with the posutlate/hypothesis taht making the large custom map is to aid them in their long fall and to get a win from tired players who quit.

Look, MP is full of assholes.  It's why I have (again) gone back to single player just about exclusively.  I don't really enjoy playing an AI all that much, but it's better than dealing with all the assholes you get online.  Besides, everyone in MP wants to play the game as some super-fast arcade-like click-fest than as a strategy game.  If I wanted that, I'd play a first person shooter.

In the situation you just described, the best thing for you to do is simply hit the quit button.  What stopped you from doing that?

Only one comment: there is a God.

It's really quite petty and beneath you to go along with their game.  You should just quit and let them delude themselves into thinking they're good.  Then they can have some other people whoop their asses over and over until they get a clue and realize all that crap they pulled got them nothing but a meaningless statistic.

or, you could also say that not letting them pull that crap for fake wins until they get a clue and realize all that crap was pointless would also work. it wasn't just that he was stalling as long as it could, it was all his rude chat that really pissed me off. and if i'm somewhat angry and don't have work in the morning, there's no way i'd let anyone get away with that <.<

especially when he kept spamming rude comments to my teammate who, even though it was his -very first- mp match managed to perform admirably and hold him off until i got there (which as already stated took a small eternity). my teammate lost only 1 asteroid and a dead end phase lane desert next to it during all those hours it took me to get there. that was no small feat, let me tell you. and he did it completely without feed for the first two hours.

"to go along with their game" could also be translated to letting them have a cheap win, which could also have been beneath me :P but if i had realized in the first 15 mins of the game i'd have gotten my teammate to quit, quitted myself and let them spend hours and hours on the cpu :P

Seriously, MP is not that bad.  Yeah, sometimes people are idiots, and I usually don't join a custom map game unless I know the host.  With that in mind, the people on the list at this link are players you can expect to have a good game with: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/338710

Your 100% MP is not that bad. Sadly since SINS MP #'s via ICO is tiny compared to most MP games. I just makes these bad apples stand out even more often. So keep on MP'ing people!!!!!!!

Once you realise that you can get a fake win by hsoting a game with an AI ally vs Nobody and get an instant win screen , do you realise the fight against fake wins is hopeless.

You should have just quit the game

O_O you can do that? *suddenly gets 500 wins on his stats*

Yes, you can do that.

Oddly, if you stack the teams against you, and immediately press surrender, you don't get the loss.

Go figure.

Thanks for this informative post SorcererFailure, I will recruit this Free Lancer as one more of my associates. He appears to have the attitude, lets hope he has the technichal skill I'm looking for. When the group I'm putting together becomes ready, we will brutalize those who perform great unjustice here in Sins.

Sins nubmers tiny? Only 4x game with more people online is Civ4.  Sins actualyl ahs very healthy popualtion things considered.  Hell you can even get a game at 3 am on weekday.

For the record, one of Snoop's smrufs is ForTheLulz.  JJ and I played him last night, and quit about 5 minutes after losing his capital ship.  The funnier part was that Snoop was the attacker and JJ was playing defense.  I would post the replay, but I'm at work right now.

So Snoop, if he has the same skill as you, your clan will be an epic example of quitters.

How long do mp games last typically?  I'm never in a position to spend very long online at one time, so I've never tried it.

Depends.  If you are agressive maybe an hour.  If you like to be a little more methodical, 2-3 hours.  I have heard rumors of 5 hour games, but the longest one I have ever been in was 4 hours.

PS. These are entrenchment stats.  Vanilla Sins games will likely never go beyond the 3 hour mark.

Thanks.  I think I'll take a nap and then hit it tonight.

If i saw a map like that i would just quit... win loss records are dumb anyway. A 4 year old could hack his wins up to 1,000 if he wanted to through a glitch or w.e so screw em.

I know the feeling.  I don't play Sins MP because I play in short bursts of an hour or two and games can go on much longer that that, but I 've enocuntered the same strategy in other games.  Considering the scope of how large a game of sins can be, what I really should've said was that you could've gone off and played a whole new game and possibly found some new fun people to play with.

Whats amusing is that the op can't even spell 'Lose'.

I played a game the other day against phantom1 where he tried to drag out the game. His team8 quit and he kept on dragging it out till harla quit but by then i was mad and he was callin me noob and was tryin to make me run all around and never fight me. He put sb at everyworld and had the ai defend with him. Well it took me awhile (i think game lasted maybe over 3 hrs) but I beat his fleet of over 70 kanracks and handfuls of others, his upgraded sb,and the ai fleet. He kept running so I had to do this a few times. To top it off I didnt lose a ton of ships either.Maybe I asked him to quit early but I owned 3/4 of the galaxy. Then after I beat him and he only had a few planets he says"you know I designed that fleet your using"\o/

Most of the time mp is fun and if you dont want games to last forever never play multi star and always play with all settings on fast.

See I would of just quit after that lol.:D   But once he calls you a noob thats when I get a lil angry. I would of gone real cheep on him and rushed his planets with nothing but seige frigs and wipe out his hw and planets.}:)   Then I would hunt him down real good.

I'm talking about technical skills scripting, data mining, etc, not game skill, and definitely not for a clan. FYI

So, as a matter of etiquette, when the other side starts saying gg, are you supposed to surrender or something?  One of the players in my first actual game got pretty testy after he conceded.  Ofc, I'm sure part of it was that it took me over an hour to figure out how to message them.
