Why the hell do you think we gave up on the Articles of Confederation and became what we are? If you're not aiming to truly unify in a way that generally pleases the members, don't bother half-assing it.

Banned because at least the EU is trying for a single currency; our old A of C was even more half-assed (less than half-an-assed?) than the current EU. 

Plus, our oscillation on the confederal-unitary scale is wobbling back towards the confederal end. Shit, we might soon see a presidential candidate who actually talked about having his state secede from the union on account of folks being pissed at DC.

And yes, there is always a back and forth on state vs fed, but we've only had one civil war and no state can legally secede, so it would be a moot point, especially for anyone with presidential ambitions. Point is that if you want to bring a bunch of different groups together, you have to tie them in tight or they tend to wiggle off one way or another.

Banned because I have found a new verbal construction that I hate: the use of "women" (or "woman") as an adjective. The New York Times does this incessantly.
