You're Banned!: The Forum Game

Okay, here's what you do for this game: You have to "ban" the person who posted above you for an outrageous, silly, or funny reason. Got it?

Banned because that's very good to know.
End of Scoutdog's quote

Banned because you're supposed to be a fact-check fiend.

Ibuprofen is NOT an antibiotic, and it is NOT a good idea to exceed the OTC label guidance unless you've gotten medical advice to do so. That stuff is hard on livers, and folks mixing heavy doses with heavy drinking can make their stomachs very unhappy, even bloody.

banned for the FDA is crap nowadays.

Ibuprofen does not have an intentional design as an antibiotic, but it does produce a hazardous environment for some bacteria, both because it interacts with certain bacteria like it does with your liver and because it keeps the inflammation down, which allows your immune system to act more efficiently. Generally I would agree not to exceed the amount, but if your liver is good, you should be tolerant. No one said to mix it with alcohol.

Keep in mind I'm talking 8 in the first day (thinking 200 mg tablets and only going 2 over the max recommended), and then 6 a day for the next 2 days. Not a severe impact if you take care of yourself.

Banned because although I don't drink and never plan to, I'm 17 and have some pretty serious autoimmune issues.

banned because serious autoimmune issues means that even OTC should require consultation with your doc. All drugs require some intelligence to use, no matter how casual we think of them.

banned for wanting intelligent drug usage

Ouch! That sucks. If you don't mind what specific issue? Fibromyalgia? Lupus? Some other I don't know about currently?

Banned for wanting stupid drug usage.

Second the sympathies for Scoutdog's immune system.

And don't blame the FDA for being well on the way to becoming a complete farce. It's been both significantly captured by the big pharms and significantly starved for resources by Congresses that prefer debt-funded wars to dull but important public policy like modernizing the FDA.

Banned because you don't get reelected by swearing to modernize the FDA.

And it's diabetes mellitus.

banned for I can blame all three. Congress for starving, pharms for tempting, and FDA for caving.

Scout: I assume Type 1 if you have autoimmune issues?

@Scoutdog - Well sorry to hear about that. I have a friend that has that. Has lived a very good life. And yeah, Alcohol will never be your friend.

Banned because, alas, democratic systems tend to produce the government citizens deserve.

Apparently, our majority prefers rant-antics and bumper-sticker policy analysis from the elected leadership. Gawds, what a vexing time to start trying to sell the republic to students again...

Banned because I've been searching for an alternative to democracy for the last four years, but have gotten nowhere, other than that totalitarian states would probably work really well if they just had some means of selecting and phasing out leaders accurately.

banned for that's not in the cards with totalitarianism. And do keep in mind we are a republic, not democracy. If the latter were true, then we would all get to vote on whether or not we bailout big business (can you say FAIL?). Democracy might work out better.

Edit: The Prince of Malta seems to do things well.

Banned because we are a democratic republic. Our design is a darned good attempt at implementing democracy while avoiding tyranny of the majority.

Scoutdog, if you haven't read Plato's Republic (lately), you should. The quest your on is never-ending. Maybe follow up the Plato with Robert Wolff's In Defense of Anarchism and then follow up with Robert Dahl's Democracy and Its Critics. And get used to being frustrated by the conflicts between your ideals and so-called reality.

Banned because it's certainly not a problem I expect to see resolved in my lifetime... but I do so love puzzles, and the pi day challenge only updates once a year.

Banned because so much headache...

banned for it's a matter of taking it in stride.

And I'm not saying our attempt is a bad one, but from the electoral college all the way to lobbyists, we kinda weaken the democratic aspect of it.

Doesn't really matter as I'm comfortable with it until I have to shoot someone. Then I become comfortable with that. And so on and so on.

Banned for threatening to shoot someone.
