Replays in Vista

Hi all,

First post on boards (due to sheer desperation). Recently got Sins, grabbed Impulse, updated Sins, then went and download Entrenchment. All seems to work fine.

I want to watch some replays of Entrenchment matches, so searched and grabbed a couple of .record files. Checked some threads for where to put them, noted various people saying put them corresponding 'Singleplayer', 'Multiplayer' folders (or something like that) in the game directory.

Ok, fair enough, but there are no folders named anything like that anywhere in either the base Sins directory or the new Entrenchment folder. And I've checked EVERY folder. Yes, I have 'hidden folders' enabled in Control Panel > Folder Options. I have saved games showing in the in-game load menu, but can't find these files in the directory either. Whaa....

I've noted several threads across the Sins community noting this problem on Vista, but nobody ever seems to be able to resolve it. Is this is known Vista bug or issue?

Thanks for any help,

KOH

Just to note, the folders in the base Sins directory are:

  • Appdata
  • Entrenchment
  • Font
  • Galaxy
  • GameInfo
  • Mesh
  • Movie
  • Particle
  • Pipeline Effect
  • SDPlugins
  • Sound
  • String
  • TextureAnimations
  • Textures
  • Window
  • xml

it's not a Vista bug, or issue. You would TECHNICALLY have this same problem on XP. I say technically, because you are actually looking the wrong place.

Sins creates a pair of directories. For Vista, they are C:\Program Files[or Program Files (x86)]\Stardock Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\[the directory structure you listed], and C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire. After that is the folders you are looking for.

AppData is a hidden directory by the way. This Users\AppData directory is also used as the directory for mods.

End of King_Of_Hearts's quote

that is a question for Microsoft, when entrenchment first came everybody had that question. The answer given to us was that Microsoft wanted it that way to help the game operate better

go figure
