Good old fashioned screensavers

What happened to them?

What ever happened to the good old fashioned screensavers?

I'm not talking about Microsoft Windows 98 style screensavers. Not screensavers like "Starfield" that comes in almost every Microsoft operating system.

No. I'm talking about screensavers in general that use plain old code instead of some video loops. ACTUAL CODE!

Not screensavers that are often 15MB or more to download and that provide the same animation over and over and over again. Screensavers like the ones by LittleBoy that are never the same. Always start out differently, and always move onto doing different things. Never a repeated animation. Always random.

Screensavers like Solar Winds, Flux, Plasma, and Helios and others found [Here], whose download sizes are small, and whose results are near amazing.

Now, I'm not bashing looped video screensavers. Some of them are nice. I just get tired of the same old movements.

Am I the only one who wants more code?

All my screen savers is all done by code. :D

I can't wait to release the new two screen savers... Still waiting for update for developer.  I will also update my current two too, with better support and ability to change settings.

Have you heard of Electric Sheep http://www.electricsheep.org It uses fractal flame coding to render very beautiful screens to your screensaver - and they are not always the same over and over again. The screensaver downloads "flocks" of "sheep" which it then displays in random order and as new "sheep" are born they replace older "sheep" which are sent out to the digital pasture.

Give it a go and see if you won't become a pastor of your own flock.
