Last person to post wins, unless they are a moderator or admin.

Basically, this game is played so that the last person who post wins. What do they win? The ThreadKiller's Achievement; The honor of being the last person to post by virtue of the content of their post. However, moderators, admins, and anyone else who has the ability to lock the thread are disqualified from winning the ThreadKiller's Achievement, if they win by locking. If the thread is won by method of locking, the "winner" gains the Achievement Of Reprehensible Epic Lameness.

didn't know that addition was being made. cool.

The game ends when it does.

As for the flak cannons, they're already in DS entrenchment and diplomacy, carrier 3rd weapon chews up fighter strike craft.  Probably need to change the damage from anti very light to anti light so that it shreds bombers better then fighters, but then that might make them chew up light frigates as well...  I'll play with it some more this weekend when I have Oreo running tests.

May I ask a question and make a small proposition?

I have been posting in DS/RP which means of course that i need to be aware of what is proper and of the other player's feelings.

My question is that i am having some difficulties with time inside the rp. Am i to understand that rp time is consistent with all the players?  Or is it subjective with each poster?  If the former, then what is appearing as weeks inside the rp 'feels' to me as if it is months.

Traveling time also concerns me, as what appears to be light years, is crossed in less time than it takes me to drive out of the city and up to buffalo.

I don't mean to cause any concern to the other players, or to ask you to re-discuss what you feel is already settled. And i don't intend to argue with any of it.

But if time is relative inside a post for each poster, it would give me a little more leeway, and make me feel a bit more comfortable. And as to travel time, well... if that were relative as well, then i wouldn't have to feel shocked that i can cross an entire system of stars that are light years distant in less than 7 hours.

But that is why i am asking, so that i can please get your consensus on how i can proceed. I do understand that I am inside the RP now, and wish to abide by the concerns of all that are part of that.

If this is best served in a pm, please let me know, that is fine.

Thank you for listening,

-Teal

I guess since a bunch of people here aren't DS related in any way, I'll send a PM. But they are fairly simple questions, so not a bother.

Sure and sure.

Time is loosely consistent unless otherwise posted that you're talking about past events, then you can run the timescale however you wish.  That means where one poster is posting on the scale of a few hours, another is posting on the scale of a day, and another might post what happens over a couple days but then goes MIA from writing for a while and others surpass them and they have to play catch up or just jump ahead and ignore the lost time.  Then there's also the fact that some RPers own time scales adjust depending on what activities they're involved in, such as the comparison of posting a battle versus posting improvement projects around their system.

When someone starts posting a week at a shot every couple of days, then they're asked to slow down and let other people post activities or break down their posts into a few individual posts to further allow them to fit into the loose scale and not force everyone else along to keep up.  The opposite however doesn't necessarily hold true, if someone only posts on the scale of hours and everyone else is posting on the scale of days, then the slow person just has to eat the time lost.  Generally though it's roughly a day of time or less passing in each person's posts.  As people integrate themselves into the main story rather then being their own side story, the time issue becomes easier to work with because everyone is working together at the same time and you're held to other people's postings rather then just flying around in the peripheral.

As for traveling time, phase travel doesn't happen at the speed of light, it's actually far far faster.  For example to get from our sun to our next closest star, Proxima in Alpha Centauri, it would take 4.22 light years roughly, whereas in game it takes seconds.  So therefor it's happening unbelievably faster.  Since the lore isn't exactly the game, we went back through the lore and pieced together instances of players describing their experiences with phase travel and somewhat concluded that travel between certain points took a certain amount of time and used that to come up with a general guide for region wide travel.

That in and of itself is merely to protect the story, past and present.  An obvious conflict can be forseen in the call for reinforcements.  One person might be attacking the black 5 sector and call for help and have them instantly appear from halfway across the region, whereas another claims that help from the system right next to them takes time to arrive to add to the dramatic feel of their story as their forces are being destroyed.  To prevent the conflict and standardize the story lines, a rough timescale was put into place.  It's not a hard scale so variations can happen as gravity does change as you travel through space like how winds can help or hinder jetliners as they fly around the world.  One flight from LA to NY might take 5 hours, a week later the same flight might take 4.5 hours, and the next day it takes 6.  It's the same here for DS lore.  Eyeball the distance and use the scale to plan accordingly and write up how long it takes in whatever style you use.

The proposition would be?

Too late.  Was already typing an explanation.  }:)

I guess my proposition is that i think (subjectively speaking in the character timeline) another 3 or 4 days before Sere will be leaving Petrograd. My assumption was it would take weeks to arrive in DS, and at this point I guess i also need to ask, I am assuming I will be arriving through Selvaria, then through Daros and Mytivias to Finely where Draak currently has his fleet on shore leave.

Does weeks sound reasonable?  Or is that really too long? Let me amend that and ask if one week is too long?

Thank you,

-Teal

bastard!

Well, except for the explanation of how we came to agreement on the travel time, you and I were in good agreement. You had a few comments there that were good though. I think she'll be cool between the two of us.

Oh, and I'm sure mdman (to no fault fault of his own) probably threw her off although he's not yet fully integrated.

Blah!

Why am I posting so late????

Okay, 3 or 4 days to leave is okay.

Yes, you will arrive through Selvaria, Daros and Finley.

One week to get there would be fine, given other local wormholes in Advent Space. My guys could be doing a 2 week vacation. (one could argue longer given tests and troubleshooting)

:)  :)  One week sounds wonderful!!!  If that is ok all around. I will have to finish up a post either tonight, or tomorrow to get her through her last trial before preparing to leave, then on to DS.  :)

Is my bringing doubles, and their limitations into the RP ok? I am trying to severely limit them, and it is meant more for dramatic effect than anything i will be using regularly. I thought perhaps this one time, then it would fade into the background.

Thank you Draak and Stant,

Appreciate the help and advice,

Sincerely,

The doubles are an interesting idea. I think the other Advent players (largely Alpha at this point) are the most likely to want to confer with you.

I can see clones being used by the Advent, but I can not see their entire society depending on them given the way you describe their degradation. I can see them being used by assassin cults or certain taboo cross-sections of society. My bigger concern is how you plan to function in DS if you either have to have a company of them with you or are bringing one that will break down so quickly.

Sere will not last very long... but I will have to think about this, because frankly i haven't at all, just getting this arc down and out. But you are right, there should be some continuity.  :)

Hopefully i will have it figured out by the time i get to DS.  :)

Perhaps another character? One appropriately clipped, I have an idea, that has just come to me...   :)

Will have to wait and see if it is appropriate though.  :)

Very sad.

Please...  My nephews used to watch that show every day...  Now my niece does.  At least it's not Barney or the Teletubbies.  I'd disown them for that.

Wow, I always thought the land of trolls was imaginary, though kudos to stant for the ingenuity of a virtual finger. (at teal) Originally, I sorta messed up the time, I think in the first few posts I decided to skip the teensy-weensy details of empire building and just skipped a month. Well I was setting up so I guess that's a good excuse. Well I won't be doing it much anymore except maybe going forward a few days here and there. Anyway though I don't have an advent faction, I do have an advent character who I will be writing about a lot (and not always as an ambitious zealot). The idea of clones is interesting but as others have said it needs to be restricted. The main person to talk to would be alpha but if anyone didn't know he has gone somewhere for a week til Thursday (dunno where, under a rock? Africa?) and isn't available.
