As for America being diverse, I think it's largely because of the way people showed up. Some against their will, others by choice, some by force but not under subjugation. Some social issues are more recent in America than others and there is always the influence of the First Amendment. It's allowed some to retain their cultural identity and others to produce a new one of their own.

But I've known some Caribbean countries where race (at least in appearance) plays a factor in a very undercurrent way. Nothing nearly as conscious as here and maybe not at all a matter of race, rather a question of economic standing drawn from the past. Doesn't really matter much.

to make one last point... racial diversity does have some minor bearing, such as the tendency toward anemia among certain African groups, but it is a small concern for most beyond that. Most of my lineage fits under Celtic or Germanic and I'm mostly proud of them for kicking some ass.

what case? I wont doubt that racism exists in the Caribbean but the classism is more prevalent.

Poeple will see a white man wearing normal clothes and chat with him. But a whiteman wearing 'tourist' clothes and speaking with an accent.. they wont chat with you, becuase they will be too busy offering you directions to the nearest pace you had no idea you wanted to go.
