Yeah, I was debating the idea of trying to explain the facets of humor, but I guess you're right. It's one of those things you have to watch the whole of and remember that it was almost meant to be more serious than it ended up being.

still needs and update/sequel

I don't want to see a remake. Remakes have been hit and miss and, in my opinion, this would suffer from the same lack of understanding that Death Race 2000 did. A sequel might be something cool to see, BUT I would want to see the original cast, if possible, brought back. John Lithgow owes his run on 3rd Rock from the Sun to this movie, so he should be in, despite his character being killed. Jeff Goldblum and Christopher Lloyd both consider this work to be highly influential in their careers (going on to quote it in other movies), so they should be in. Peter Weller was blown to little bits and turned into a robot, so he's a maybe.
