To smurf, or not to smurf...

To smurf, or not to smurf...

In the wonderful world of SINS we have seen an increase of the little blue people we lovingly (or grudgingly) refer to as "smurf".  The Blue Plague is reaching epidemic status and many are becoming frustrated by it. (Me included)

So here is the question (and yes my opinion is showing), should we the people-aka SINS community, continue in the direction of smurf-to-smurf warfare, OR resume face-to-familiar-face warfare. Laying our smurf’s to rest and making the P.U.G. more than just a guessing game-but a good game.

Woah, what did I say that you couldn't express? That decent people are helpless towards the abuse of loopholes in a rule system which makes enforcement by devs necessary? Or that you simply do what 'everyone' does? Which is sort of a dumb excuse, because when literally everyone does it just because 'everyone' else does it it becomes hollow.

I've been casully following this thread and probably know which game it stems from because me and Zoomers were in it together.  Actually we were on the same team, I was cap and he was my first pick.  When the other cap used his two picks the grab Quar and Howler who were both smurfing and the other cap knew it somehow and was open about it I was pretty unhappy.  The game was sadly lost in a landslide.

Now I don't smurf, I've got one name on ICO and it is the same as this one.

My comment has to do with the "you can tell who the smurf is" concept.  I've seen hundreds of smurf names come and go and rarely play more then a couple games with any of them.  Even if they are in the same game as me if I don't fight them or we have to help each other odds are I only have a basic idea of their tactics and skill level.  Did they run all over the map because the are just that good, or because they got lucky that game?

My solution to smurfing is simple.  I used to boot them as soon as they joined a game but I had a problem with them constantly rejoining.  Now I take a slightly different approach.  I won't boot them right off the bat, but when the game is full and regular wants to join, or when we have 9 and do a 4vs4.  I'll tell them this too.  "Stick around if you want, but I'll boot you before the game starts."  Very effective because nobody wants to waste their time, anymore so then actually playing a computer game does already :).

Ah. Smurfs. I've got 400+ on my main. 150+ on my DT Raging amish tag. 70+ on two other smurfs. and 10+ on a new one I'm working on. And I've got two with 70+ that I have since given up. It's a shame when I think about it. I could have all of those on one main. My point? Keeeiiiillll the smurfing. It needs to die. Just like the Illum bug.

I would post something really good, but i am going to the gym.

I think its kind of hypocritical that you people say smurfing should be eliminated but do so yourself.  It would not be a problem if you take responsibilty for your own actions and stopped of your own accord.  No developer intervention would be needed then.  Just because you CAN do something does not make it right to do so.  I could do a lot of bad things and have no real consequences to them but that would not make me any less of a dick for doing them.  It has been said that the real measure of character is what one does when no one is looking.  That could be translated to online because no one knows who you are so there are less negative consequences.  It is doubtful any of you smurfs will stop until you are forced though.

It is just a game, so I don't really feel like smurfing is wrong. That being said, I'm not going to deny myself possible advantages purely because it's the "moral high road". In real life, sure. In a game I play for fun (and to win), not a chance.

That being said, I would still prefer a world where no one can smurf, but unless the devs do so, I don't plan to stop.

At least you admit you do it for the "advantages".  Far be it for someone to act with honor regardless of what they are doing at the time.  Too bad we can't have fair teams in pugs for smurf stacking.  If you can't win and have fun in a fair fight then why even bother.  Does it make you feel good to stack a team to win that way?  Does it give you a sense of accomplishment?  I would rather my winning be a struggle than an complete rout.  I would also rather do it without "cheating" to do so.  It sounds as if you see no problem with any cheat so long as it gives you an advantage.  If I lose then I lose.  Nothing lost by losing so why not do it with some honor.

Well said.

I know this is just a game, however, it is my favorite game.  I am not the greatest at it, nor do I plan to be, but i love the game, and I love even more being able to honestly say "gg" at the end. A good fair game is much better than a stacked stomp.

We can agree on this I hope.

No one wants to be opposite a "stacked team"-players won't even "green up" if it is stacked against them (Many of the same players that are smurfaholics".

Why inflict the same type of "stacked stomp" upon others?

For the sake of the P.U.G. bring your main. OR, if you "must" smurf, for the sake of the P.U.G tell BOTH captains your main account (and if you want them to keep it secret). Compromise, maybe?

Smurfing is here, and it is here to stay, no point in complaining. Some people do it to train, some people do it to trash talk (which is wrong), and some people do it to play a causal game, and not feel they have to win every game and not have fun.

its only a small problem compared to other major problems.

Everone chill out, and heres a video from my good smurf |USMC|Jarhead.

Jesus Grey. I don't know if it's that everyone smurfs or the community got bigger, but I don't recognize most of the names  online anymore. To be clear, I pull out the main if I see a room full of people I actually recognize, but if I'm in a room where I recognize no one. Usually, it means:

a. They're all smurfs an when in Rome....

b. They're all newbs. I'm gonna win anyway.

You're taking the anti-smurfing position a bit too seriously my friend. There's arguing for what you believe in, and then there's

Does it make you feel good to stack a team to win that way? Does it give you a sense of accomplishment?

And this talks a guy who spamm bugged lums to win just cause he can , a guy who uses lums bugged advantage every game and a guy who posted few day ago treat about someone who used Z axis and called him bug abuser.  Kali morality in full picture.

its allowed so i do it.  same as u. Period. and i think its should be forbidden.

There is no hipocrycy in it. Hipocrycy is pointing a finger at someone who use  legal but "unetical" advantage while using other legal "unetical" advantage by himspelf.

BTW considerin my smurfs have much better stats then my main, i dont know what r u whining about

For the sake of the P.U.G....

I will say again:

1 bring your main.

OR, if you "must" (cough wheez) smurf,

2  Tell BOTH captains your main account (And if you want, tell them to keep it secret. Captains SHOULD honor that-I would).

Compromise, maybe?

I was asking honest questions that you did not answer.  It isn't that the community got bigger thats for damn sure.  I find your statement that you bring out your main when you see people you know highly doubtful and just an excuse to smurf.  Just like you only scout rush when you see someone else going for lrf when I have personally seen you have a fleet of them before lrf one comes out.  Pretty much the only time I see DT with tags on or even nonsmurfing are when they are wanting to play together as a clan on one team and that isn't often(exceptions being Howthe and Klemz).    I am sorry if my stand against smurfing is not to your liking but I didn't dig up any pictures of smurfs being dipshits to make a post more to your style like your long post on scouts that featured pictures of wierdo boy scouts and women.  :P

To his credit, quar usually tips off his smurfs by taking specific jabs at me but most do not.  As to the illums quar, I do not spam illums that much.  It isn't like using a Z axis exploit or scuttling neutrals which are intentional and completely avoided otherwise.  Illums/lrf are a central part of the fleet and it is hard to not use them.  I generally aim for a balanced fleet but it is often tailored to what my enemy has built(which isnt illums for you unless you are early SB rushing me and there isnt much else to take down the thing with).  Illums suck taking down SBs unless you have a huge number of them and you usually build a lot of SBs.  As to the morality of using illums at all, there isnt much option else unless I halcyon/scout/disc rush or 2 skirantra/SB rush like the rest of you DT bastards.  Maybe I should take it up just to make you happy since you think its a more acceptable spam.

You all can try to turn it around and make this about me if you like but that doesn't make smurfing any better.  It is still done with the intent of team stacking and other "advantages".  If winning when you stack the deck is fun for you then you aren't gonna stop unless they make you stop which I doubt they will do.  You say it should be forbidden and stopped but still do it so yes I call that a hypocrit.

1 : a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion
2 : a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings

I like the "false appearance" part.  I rememeber somone saying before "GOD SAVE THE SMURFS" ;P

Smurfing-the new religion.

all this bla bla like i already sad is totaly pointless, cause

If you'll notice the theme that I have tried to keep throughout this post is FOR THE PUGS.

I know this won't stop people from smurfing unless devs do SOMETHING, but if we are going to:

1-Take the time to get online,

2-wait for a game to finally get sorted and started-aka PUG/5v5/4v4

3 make it past the 3 minute minidump mark

Wouldn't you want a fair and fun game after all of that?

I know we can agree on a fair game being a better game-otherwise people wouldn't complain about "bugs" that imbalance the game-One example I can think of is "f***n bugged lums"

Smurfs are the bugs of PUGS.

I also like to point out I finally got revenge on ferdie. By smurfing, I killed my guy and while ferdie does what he usally does, never fleets up and just expands and sb's, he finally got 2v1 and was losing bad, and I let him get wastered to his last 2 planets. :)

Then i helped him and we won the game. By smurfing, I finally got pay back on ferdie, as he is the WORST TEAM PLAYER EVER!.

I love smurfing, and I wont stop doing it. Sorry guys, I dont act like an arse when smurfing only when someone trash talks me, then i do (even with my main I do the same). If everone else smurfs in games, I will continues to do so, like yesterday, there were 6 smurfs in one game.

Amish said he used his main when he knew people in the room.  Apparently you only read my posts quar.  Its nice to be the focus of your obsession but I gotta say buddy......I'm straight.  I am sorry to disappoint but there is just no interest from me.  Better luck next time.

Just gotta give you some crap.  I never figured you would stop smurfing quar.  You just speak hypocritically when you say you are against it because there is nothing stopping you from stopping except you.
