You use the xsi mod tool (a free program) to finish the model and make it into a mesh file (using the xsiconverter) get forgetools 3, it has a documentation section including on how to make a finished model ready for sins export. I don't have any experience in modelling or making finished models ready in XSI so i can't help you in that area.

To start your mod, and modeling you will need this 3 things.

Softimage Mod Tool (440 MB)

Free for Non-commercial Game Creation and Modding. Only available by filling out the trial download form on the Autodesk website.

Autodesk® Softimage® Mod Tool software (formerly XSI Mod Tool) is a free* 3D modeling and animation package for creating non-commercial games and "modding" (modifying games). Autodesk® Softimage® Mod Tool 7.5 is based on the same professional toolset found in Autodesk® Softimage® 7.5 software, used by game developers to create 3D characters, levels, props, and animation.

Forge Tools 3 (31 MB)

Free from Sins of a Solar Empire (SoaSE), Forge Tools 3 includes the latest files for map making, modding. Updated for Sins 1.15/Entrenchment 1.01.

Graphics

A graphics control tool like Photoshop or Gimp (free).

For Photoshop you will need DDS Nvidia Plugin.

This is what I got so far and have read the pdfs on Forgetools3/Documentation. So far so good.

@myfist0- the current Forge Tools 3 are outdated.

The mapmaker&particle utility included are still up-to-date, but the reference files, reference meshes, and other stuff is outdated.

So you'll need to find either Dekhranic's SoaSE Mod Tool GUI or get the harpo99999 mod tool set for BIN-to-TXT file conversion so you can have up-to-date files.

This is assuming you have Sins 1.181/Entrench 1.041. If you have 1.15/1.01 then the FT3 would be properly dated.

You will also need a dds. plugin for Gimp. It can be found at http://registry.gimp.org/

Can I get a file name please

Found this site http://nifelheim.dyndns.org/~cocidius/dds/#download

Current version: 2.0.7 (2008-12-12)

source (tar.bz2)
win32 binaries (zip)

Note: Previous versions of GIMP (2.4 and lower) have been deprecated. You will need to upgrade to GIMP 2.6 to use this plugin.

Do I need this if I install PhotoShop
