Planetary Resources: Possible?

Resources (Metal/Crystal) from planet, rather than resource asteroids in planetary gravity well

Hi all,

I've been diligently flavouring SoaSE:Trinity to my taste.  I almost have it where I want it, I just want to see if the following would be possible, and ask for a point in the right direction from somebody who might know how.

What I would like to do is have planets (ice, volcanic, terran & desert) have a chance to produce resources directly

(example: planet is colonised, there is a chance to earn 0.3 metal/sec and 0.1 crystal/sec, without having a resource asteroid in orbit.)

I've searched a little, but can't find an answer, any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

You might be able to make the planet have a passive ability to give you those extra resources. You'll want to look at the Vasari drain planet ability as that is the only ability I can think of that generates resources.

Yeah, and make that ability (or a modified version of it) as auto-cast ability of your planet entity file with say a 30 second or 1 minute cooldown.

Someone’s been playing Conquest too much.  While this might be a good idea, I just don’t see it being a feasible one with the mods that are out that increase the research for resources now. with those mods there is way more money than you need now.

End of Darksxx's quote

I think it is more about roleplay than about increasing the amount of resource income. And I didn't realize you could give planets non-passive abilities Jason, are you sure you can do that?

You can do this by making the colonize ability have an extra buff which will have a change to be aplied. Note that resources can only be generated as an overtime action and thus need a timeElapsed finish conidtion so you will need 2 buffs where one keep casting the 2nd when it finshes and the 2nd which will generate the resources.

Also if I remember right it is only possible to make it generate resources, so you can't make it make a different amount of metal and crystals.

Wow! Great info guys.

What I want to accomplish is remove the orbiting asteroids, have a slow extraction rate from the planet itself (representing the cost/difficulty of mining on the surface and transfer to orbit.) I'm actually in the process of

Why?  because I want to shift the balance of resources to come from non colonisable objects instead, just suits my style of play.   I am hoping the residuals from planets will prevent total loss of resource collection if you are pushed out of rich asteroidbelts and the like.

Thanks everyone, I will try your suggestions!

(PS, I don't know what Conquest is... |-) )

Conquest was only one of the best RTS Space games that was ever made.  Created by Chris Roberts back in the day when he went solo and created Digital Anvil.  I still play and love that game even now. The whole Admiral concept was genius.  Admiral flagship dies he automatically transfers his flag to a new Capitalship.  And the AI was ruthless in that game.  I wish they had made a newer version of this game.  Sins took some of their concepts and made things better and some things not so much better.  Conquest planetary systems was a better idea.  I’m hoping sins will adopt this style with Sins II.

Or just spread ability of your HV to all planets and perhaps increase it.

HV gives 0.4 Crystal and metal without resource asteroids being build by default.
