Protecting trade lanes....

Way too late I know but, attacking and protecting  trade ships should be an important part of this game. I always play single player, but I feel this part of the game could be better fleshed out.

Maybe you would have to assign escorts to follow and protect. Marine assault ships which could either board, or destroy( each would have a advantage). etc.

are you talking about a tradeship with guns?

Or a separate tradeship altogether with a totally different purpose? Anyway, sounds interesting. Try modding.

hint hint hint.

It is possible to add tradeships with guns and abilities, but the abilities have to be passive as you have no control over each individual ship.

I could help, or there are a multitude of other modders out there who could help you.

yeah the whole protect trade lane idea kinda falters a bit in this game

admittedly one can destroy trade ships and get money (barely anything) and you can break up the white line of credits by attacking trade ports but overall there isn't much going with it

having trade ships with guns could be good idea or horrible. They would need considerable dps tp be effective, but with their numbers might become too effective.

Having militia to protect them as paid research might work, but since the only AI controlled/player controlled team that will always go after trade is pirates I doubt most players would bother.

agree there also, the best way to disrupt someones trade is taking down the tradeports, attacking the trade ships causes minimal damage

True. Having militia to protect your ships makes no sense unless you plan to up the reward for destroying them. Otherwise I will just dissemble the ports with nanites

I'm just thinking of another layer of strategy that could be added to game. To be given the option of assault/rob w/ space marines ( new ship ) instead of destroying trade ships/ports.

btw no weapons on trade ships,,,,escort ships.
