I friended nearly all the regulars (not smurfs) and a few others here and there, got up to about 100 friends, but I can't get any more.

Great, you have found one of the hidden hardcoded limit... maybe you can request that for Rebellion, Stardock increase the "friend" limit from 100 to 255

Friends are completely one-sided. I can friend someone so I can see what games and chat they're in, they get no notification at all. It doesn't matter how nice I am

And, yeah, friend limit raised to 100+? That may sound like an "Account Research" for Rebellion, ha ; do this research, then you can have more friends!
