Please add super weapon toggle.

Please add the ability to turn super weapons on/off from the start of a match. Having super weapons being spammed at me while playing vs the AI is making the game less enjoyable. Other games such as the Command and Conquer series have had this feature and it works quite well. I would really love to see this added as this is the only issue I really have with the game.

This would be bad as it would be unfair towards someone who was a Rebel Advent.

the more options a game gives you the better. RTS games 15 years ago would let you choose the tech level. I used to do allot of modding which was mostly parameter editing but i have never undersood why some games dont have these simple choices - thecouple of years of cnc games from EA is a great example .

It must be difficult for the devs to add to a game because very few RTS game devs actually put the options in - i loved the way supreme commander would let you restrict individual units and structures

I actually like the fact that the AI is doing research and making stuff from in the tech trees. I do agree with you though that the super weapon spam is a bit ridiculous. The limit to four was a good start, but I think it could go lower with out too much detriment to game play. Testing stuff out is one of the reasons we are here after all tee hee.

The Devs kinda but themselves in the bind by first allowing for pirate toggle. Granted they needed to fix balance issue but once that gate was open you will see request for super weapons toggle and titan toggle as well.

I for one am in agreement.  I hate being spammed by super weapons, it's just annoying.  I don't see what would be so bad about adding a toggle to play without them and would appreciate that option being available.

I think letting the player decide on the amount of superweapons via an ingame number field at the Game Options screen would be the better choice instead of hardcoding a limit.

Giving people options on how they want to play the game has always been good.

Let me reiterate. Disabling superweapons from the game is actually very bad. As it stands they are the only counter to Wail of the Sacrificed. Having a slider that lets you choose from 1-infinite would be very good. Having none would be very bad.

Ever since I stopped turtling, super weapon spam hasn't been an issue for me. Occasionally I have to rush a starbase when a bot is building a couple. As far as multiplayer I don't think I've seen a human bother with them yet. Everyone has their own skill level and play style, so suggesting everyone just be offensive isn't the solution I'd push, however with only 4 superweapons allowed atm it's quite manageable. If anything having super weapons off would mostly benefit those new to SoaSE, as it's not a pick up and play in 1 hour type of game.

I only play vs the AI so I like to have total control over my game. Hearing the messages about super weapons all the time get really annoying. And the option to have it on off would work just fine because it is user definable. You can choose to play with it on or not, the game is not forcing you to not use them.

A Slider would work fine as well just make sure it starts at zero.

If you want the C&C attempt you should make it controlled and give each race only one superweapon at once, and actually make it super.

If you want to go down the supreme commander lane of "build as many as you can and hope the enemy cannot bring up his counters fast enough" they should be unlimited.

In both cases a simple toggle button to deactivate should be enough.

Those in betweens of "lets make them weak individually and limit their number" usually just make them unusable.

^^ This!

I picked up SoaSE this weekend and haven't really been able to put it down. To say it's a complex game is putting it lightly. I've dumped 25 hours into it so far and have learned some hard lessons (and still have a lot to learn) along the way.

I finally thought I had the computer beat. I held a very important choke point which allowed me to have plenty of planets behind me. I was earning money, building my fleet, and researching everything there was to research. then boom, super weapon spam. It really sapped the fun i was having right out of the game, as things began to become a chore. I was spending tons of money to revive my planets and repopulate them - I took all my capital ships, which was a lot, my titan, and all my cruisers and attempted to attack... which failed.

I'd love to learn some sort of "build order." Which things to research first, what I should be spending money on etc. Until I learn those things which could be a long while, i'd like to have the late-game weapon spam off for my current games

There is no down side to having a toggle for super weapons that I can see.

Good idea. Please add superweapon toggle. More game customization options is always good.

I really don't like the people here who are saying "you can't have no super weapons, my strategy doesn't work without them" because well... that's about the same as someone saying "You can't have super weapons, my strategy doesn't work with them."

Really I think, just like pirates, the issue why they are able to be turned off is that loss of fun vs AI. I love pirates, and I wish i could play with them, but not with AI. It's sooooo annoying to play Ebay bidding with a computer... it's really not fun. I can see how super weapons cause a similar issue.  Almost every strategy game these days have these options for a reason. You change the gameplay enough to want to play the game more.

And really, who losses with an option?

I mean..., I play Wargame: European escalation and even WITHOUT an option to ban artillery people still demand "no artillery" in their game name. I think they're silly for removing it from their game... but they still play plenty of fun games without me. I'm sure they still wish there was an option to make sure no one trolls them.

I don't care much about superweapons at this point but in the same spirit, I could definitely get behind a toggle for mines.

Put me down for 'all of the above'.  Options are preferred in single-player games.

Well stardock skrewed me out of Rebelion however after playing diplomacy and various mods playing with super weapons off would be great sometimes especially with certain mods were once the super weapons start fireing it slows down the game so much it becomes un playable. And were i dont have internet very oftr i find AIs will build 10 or 12 super weapons each and just spam them and it gets old rather then them massing for an attack they waist money on the super weapons. In essence easy and normal they sit and let you kill them hard and harder they sit there and build starbases and super weapons vicious and the last one they build even more super weapons launch one massed attack if they fail they rain super weapons on you till all your planets are gone making it no fun

It would be a simple toggle switch if you cant live without super weapons fine leave it on those of us you say cant win without them? most of us are offline players that can find a way

I am glad to see other people agree with me.

Not really - if you where playing advent you could just choose to play with them on.

If you where playing online ask the host to change the game settings and if they dont host your own or go a a game with settings you prefer - as its always been with online gaming

yes i would very much like a toggle, i really only play single player and usually throw in an AI ally for myself but the AI in general cant seem to cope with the constant novalith spam

the limit of 4 helps but when you play say 3vs3 thats still 12 that can be built and spammed which forces me to build a starbase at every planet to keep control and the AI simply doesnt do the same so my AI allies get wiped out pretty quick

as i side note if i build a starbase in an AI controlled grav well can it prevent them losing control or does it only work for planets controlled by the starbase owner?

You don't get such options, like min/max deathmatchy stuff, disabling "shiptype x, y, z", disabling "abilityclass x. y, z" or even "planetmoduletype a, b, c".  There is no way to start players with any research tiers in different areas completed for accelerated games, nor the ability to prevent research of any tier.

Stuff like this was part of Star Trek Armada II, but the technology has since been lost and for the best since such options are too complex for players to handle.  It is better that they have to restart every map from nothing and, to instill character, lose everything accomplished when the game is over.  Since there is no campaign or galaxy map or regional map to update with wins/losses, players don't have to think on a larger scale and actually see how the conflict between empires is shaping up.

If you want superweapons disabled... stop creating these useless threads and do it yourselves. You need to change all of 6 files, and it ain't even that hard.

Sad to see this was not added in the recent patch, I hope they are considering it.
