Discussion: the Vasari-Advent Matchup

This has traditionally been a difficulty to balance matchup. Both are late-game superstars, but the real complexity comes from the existance of phase missiles and the dependency on the advent on shields.

With rebellion advent got a potential +20% phase missile block while in friendly culture(though with how deep in harmony the last tech is, practically speaking for multiplayer you likely more often have 10%), leaving the enemy with 30-40% shield bypass, dropping to 10-20% 1 minutes after the advent player kills the last subverter(ensuring all of their buffs have run out).

That said, This thread is for discussing this matchup specifically:

Do you think the phase missile block as enough to level this previously very unbalanced matchup?  If not, what else is necessary?

Has rebellion added any new complications to this matchup(in favor of either side)?  Specifically which titans do you think are problematic for either side in this matchup?  How do you think faction choices impacts this matchup?

I haven't really come to a a personal conclusion yet on whether or not rebellion has balanced this matchup(reserving judgement until I've seen a bit more of it).  That said, I'd love to see some dicussion and other people's thoughts on how rebellion's implementations of the advent and Vasari have affected this historically volatile matchup.

Technically Advent can negate phase missiles completely in their culture with max research and a shield pact, though admittingly that's not likely to happen in most match ups. In theory I think it helps quite a bit, though I'd want culture to be more useful economically to give the Advent some other reason for getting it out. But we'll see what happens.

The loyalist have the advantage with suppression aura

I seriously want to test this a lot bilun, and I plan to make a thread either congratulating or prodding the developers on the state of balance in this matchup.  I just need for the game to be stable enough to stop the minidumps.  :)

My initial impression of the advent loyalists is that they are better suited to face the vasari, at least in theory.  The strong culture of the advent loyalists really would play havoc on the vasari game plan, while protecting the advent fleet.  The strong advent corvette rush allows the advent to more easily control neutrals at a distance, snipe incoming vasari starbase constructors, and snipe vasari labs.  considering that the advent discordia is a great anti vasari corvette ship, I think my happy days of crunching some vasari empires are just beginning.

Eradica Titan + Repulse laugh at the enemy with chastic burst. However a Titan + starbase may give you trouble.

I'm having a lot of fun combining Malice, Fracture, Chastic Burst and Psionic Scream.

Also, insta-level 5 for the Eradica using the pirate base.

You can only get to 3 from bases, but yeah a level 3 eradica with repulse is pretty much unstoppable.

The base had a few extra pirate raids sitting around.

I am not surprised. Was it always like that or is it just because they're damn dangerous early-game now?

Yeah I don't see the Coronata wiping out a fleet by itself just as easily. It's missing a powerful AoE ability and has less weapons overall.

It'll do a number on cap ships though.

Yeh but its also pretty much invulnerable behind a wall of repulse, shield projection, suppression aura and domina's preservation

Scenario says there even.. give or take

Pre-diplo too. Pirates always have been annoying and unpredictable.
