Countering the Corsev?

Alright, I ran up against someone that used the Corsev as their opening capship, and used it well, for the first time the other night. He had nothing but a Corsev and a host of light frigates. I had a pair of Sovas and some LRMs. In my mind, it should've been GG, since bombers > Corsev, and LRMs > light frigates... but it didn't play out that way. Demolition team blew up swaths of my LRMs, the Corsev easily tanked two capships and their attendant bombers' worth of damage with salvage operations, and he just kept streaming in more light frigates, which worked because I couldn't keep my LRMs alive long enough to dent his numbers due to the AoE.

At this point, I'm left thinking "Why are there uncapped AoEs at level 1, and why would they put a self-heal on the same ship as one of these abilities?"

I am something of a noob, I'll be honest, but I was hoping for suggestions on a viable counter for this that isn't just "build a Corsev too"?

Corsev is OP, don't even bother trying to kill it until everything else is dead or you have 200 bomber squadrons and nothing better to do...if you happen to have disruptive strikes, EMP, or detonate AM, you can use those on the corsev so it at least can't use it's AoE...but, it'll still have its passive regen so don't focus fire on it...

wouldnt call it op... but ya. dont focus fire on it, just a waste of time.

In fact, any good player will usually keep his caps alive, making any focus fire on them basicly wasted damage, especially in the early game like that.

Haha, I just realized how OP it was, the computer used it correctly, I guess. I've never run into a problem killing one until now, fully maxed fleet, I set the corsev as primary and set my titan to subjugate. After several minutes it dawned on me the capital was still up and that confused me. <(0_o)>

So I got smart and took my revelations off autocast and manually shut him down by disabling him in serial nd turned my titan off pansy mode to boot-to-rump vulcanization mode. What a pain in the rump that ship must be with just a handful of ships.

So basically attack the support fleet, despite the fact that it's going to chew through my support fleet much faster due to the AoE?

At this point, the only options I see are use a Corsev or Discord myself to hit their support fleet just as hard (and I'm just going to come out and say it: it's pretty weaksauce game development when the only viable counter for something is the same thing), or run away and leave it to face a starbase instead.

Yeah, the only other time I faced someone that used that as their first capship, I held them off until mid-game and took it down by bomber-kiting him. This time, it was a low-tech rush, so I didn't have any time to prepare, and even after the fact, I still don't know what I should've done instead, which is rare. I make mistakes, but at least I usually know what the mistake was. In this case, it seems like not running away and letting him have my homeworld without a fight was the mistake I made.

You can deplete its AM so it can't use it's AoE ability....then it's just a big brick...

Think of the Kol as being a hard brick.  The Corsev is a relatively soft brick that somehow manages to heal up as soon as you put a scratch on it.

Yeah don't focus fire corsev. You have to kill support ships first then cap ship. I think that in info card it says that salvage operation works only on either friendly destroyed ships or enemy destroyed ships.

As it turns out it works on both friendly and enemy and in addition to that it works on strike craft as well. When I was playing with it i had a guy with 20 drones all bombers FF my lvl 5 corcev with lvl 3 salvage operation. In addition to cap I also had 25 flak frigates.

He managed to bring corsev down to 50% before he run out of AM on his drones.

But yeah I used to go against it with flak and lrms where flaks were meant as protection against corvettes. What you have to do is to get enough force that you can bring it down, Dont send 20 ships at the time against it couse it wont work :P

Umm..  Salvage Operations only works on allied frigates..

Are you sure?

I know it said that on info card in previous version but it wasn't.

Perhaps they fixed it......

But if it is working only on allied vessels then corsev would be very susceptible to focus fire. Didn't came across it since last patch but I am 100% sure it wasn't so in previous one.,

It's hard to kill cause it is a quarter inch tall.

Please Starclad fix this design, pat your ship designer on the head, and tell him try again.

If looks could kill.....

Yeah, I'm sure.  I double checked the buff chain before posting that because I'd seen it before and I didn't remember seeing anything about enemy ships but I'd figure I'd check to make sure.

Yeah, I don't see how it has room for armor and marines and salvagers.  If were just as tall as the other capitals it would be fine.

RAM chips need lots of surface area to radiate off the heat...

Like a ram stick , I wish the memory of this ship to disappear when I turn my machine off. :|

Corsev is still ridiculously OP. LRF, corvette, flak, doesn't matter. That shit won't die. If you happen to have different opinion, go fuck yourself. I had 3/4 of a game today. Enough for 2+ weeks.

Corsev's Op? Well don't play me in a game >o>

You'd probably scuttle it by accident anyway.

thats awesome :)

If you're paying attention (which isn't always a given in Sins), couldn't you just spread your LRM's and outgun the supporting fleet OP?

Spreading ships takes too much time and gets you killed...the time they waste repositioning (and likely not shooting at anything then) is invaluable...you are better off killing the corsev's AM (and such abilities are good to have anyway due to titans)....

mwhahaahahaha I knew it was OP before everyone else /hipster glasses

Required changes to the Corsev:

1.  Nerf salvage operations

2.  Give it a different fucking model

Not necessarily in that order of importance, mind.  ;)
