Happy Birthday Lego!

80th Anniversary for a wonderful invention!

When I was small, I didn't have Lego. I had empty cans and wood, and pots... and played. Lego existed, but hadn't reached America yet...

When my kids were small, we worried about them choking on it. But... they got older and Lego got better.

Anyway, kids today have a wonderful play system.

Here's a 17 minute animated video which tells the story of Lego.... and of more: Stick-to-it-iveness, innovating, being open to ideas... well worth seeing, imho.

Great story Doc often wondered how Lego started & how the name came to be. Played with them myself with my nieces and nephews!

Kudos Doc for reminding us what fabulous play system it is still!

Thanks

Always saw it as a rug-rat's bastard idiot distant relation of Meccano..... and that was a REAL creative 'toy'.

Half a century later and I still have my Meccano.....even toyed with the idea of one of those repro set of drawers for it that are made by a bloke in India....;)

I had no idea there was a Lego City, let alone episodes of it's cartoons.  Happy 60 to Lego. Good one Doc.

What with the nuts and bolts it's for an older child... but I love that the car plays the "Miami Vice" theme song! :)

I never played with Lego's. I went from Lincoln Logs to Erector sets.  From splinters to sharp metal edges, ahh, the good old days.

One advantage that Lincoln Logs had was that the vacuum cleaner didn't suck them up.

I started when I was about 6 .....and not that bullshit re-invented French crap.... that's little better than any other childish quasi-construction/engineering junk.

There WAS only one ....and a squillion imitators .... that got it right....;)
