Beating the Dead Quad Conspiracy

Quoting Volt_Cruelerz, reply 1
Sins is single-threaded so having a multicore PC will not help.
End of Volt_Cruelerz's quote

Quoting Pbhead, reply 1
devs had said repeatably that it will not happen.

I belive it would require completely rebuilding the game engine... so... expect it for SINS 2.  nothing sooner.

And, honestly. your wrong.  As galaxy sizes get bigger, the quantity of stupid dumb shit goes up.   I dont want to have upgrade the logistic slots 50 times, and build 200 trade ports.  not to mention, you have a severe fleet supply limit... which, means that due to the way stackings and repair, and everything works... if everything is maxed out, you cant realy split up your fleet into more than 2 main forces, and still be effective in battle... too many planets and not enough choke points means that the game devolves into fleets playing round robin, where both fleets never battle eachother, instead a cycle of bombing, and annoyng rebuilding.  the huge multistar is about (maybe even past) the limit of the size of the game as far as gameplay is concerned.

I do think that limiting the star's phase lanes to certain other stars, instead of every star on the map would help this problem.

AFAIK, the beta doesn't really support multi-core CPUs, but the release will do a better job of it

I don't believe there's a shortcut to check FPS

Quoting RonLugge, reply 1
The game does make some use of a second core, but reports vary wildly on how much so.
End of RonLugge's quote

Quoting Yarlen, reply 1
There won't be any additional support for multicore processors.  Adding that kind of support into the engine would take years and is far outside the scope of Rebellion.  Having a multicore processor should still help, however, because the OS will offload non-game tasks to the other cores.
End of Yarlen's quote

Quoting Volt_Cruelerz, reply 3
lol yeah, when playing online yesterday, I got into a four-way battle of combined aligned fleets.  Each player had 100-150 ships plus 40-200 squads of SC (wrath built a lot of Sovas) and my quad core was handling the thing just fine.  Wrath's processor was very unhappy with us though lol.

Quad cores are nice
End of Volt_Cruelerz's quote

Quoting TFL, reply 3
No it won't use 4 cores its not Crysis in space, but it IS the best space RTS/4x game money can buy.

SoaSE doesn't need 4 cores, use ur central heating system instead
End of TFL's quote

Quoting RonLugge, reply 10
I should point out that one reason to specify dual / quad core is because a 2 GHz dual core CPU will generally destroy the most common single-core CPUs (i. e. a P4).
End of RonLugge's quote

Quoting Spartan, reply 7
It does not even come close to using two on my system at highest settings and 2550 res it only uses a little over 1.30 cores. I would love for it to use all of them. As it stands now i can spin a full battle with lots of ship so fast I cant see anything that is how fluid it is.
End of Spartan's quote

"sigh"

Quoting Yarlen, reply 5
Right now only texture loading is multi-threaded.

i love sins. been playing it sence the first game. but no muili core is just lame.... might be the straw that breaks the horses back sooner or later

Setting a game to run on multi-core processors is relatively easy. Just a few lines of code are necessary. I should know. I took programming classes.

Agreed, Illuminators would definitely be helped by a multi-core processing. Each beam would be individually controlled by a single processor increasing their power and accuracy. The fourth could be set to proper ship piloting to get the best position for maximum damage.

Ugh..  The comment regarding my processor versus Wrath's had more to do with age/tech.  My computer is a year old.  His is.. a bit older than that...  i7 versus whatever the heck he had that was severely outdated.  I also keep a ton of windows open at all times, often switching between programs that each take a lot of processing power: compilers, modeling programs, image editors, and Chrome with 10-15 tabs open.

This is funnier than what I would have said. It's funny how all the people that seem to comment on this have no idea what they are even talking about.

LAA is the bomb. Have that installed on all my games that are 32-bit and they now work great with my 64-bit OS. I have a special app that tells me how much RAM and thanks to LAA I am always at full RAM usage of 2 GBs.

Or the lack of desire to create a troll thread that could truly mislead someone rather than ruin one so that it is obvious to readers as to what it is.

In this video. 15 fps. 5 when zooming too much. And i was being kind because i made it worse. ive managed to reach the maximum units the game can handle. It crashed back to windows desktop, made me laught the first few seconds until i remember that it pisses me off.

This video recording has only a few ships fighting, FAR from being epic, but its already lagging hard. Pointless to go any further i know i can make it running @ 2 fps and then the game crashs.

Sorry, french Windows. http://oi46.tinypic.com/6fpjjd.jpg

14% total CPU usage when the game can't breath. I see its using 4 cores now but why 3 of them are almost idling.

It was 3vs3 battles, Do not try 4v4 unless you're a slides fan.

This outdated computer can run Supreme commander 2, 4vs4, Expert AI, running at 60 fps when there are close to 5000 units on the screen with 10 exlosions per seconds.

Anyway, that is heavily depressing. Dont want to be rude but im pissed off just so u know. RageQuitting, cya.

Please, let the newbies figure out they are playing a game with single core/2GB support only and multicore/4GB just means your computer won't have a fucking rainman meltdown starting the game.

We need to remember the thrill of discovering for ourselves all the limitations this game has instead of focusing on all the limitations it still has.
