Run Modern (Metro) apps in a window on your Windows 8 desktop with ModernMix™ Beta now available!

ModernMix_logo

ModernMix is a groundbreaking new application that gives you the ability to run Windows 8 Modern (Metro) apps in a window on the desktop.

Windows 8 Modern apps, also known as "Metro" or RT apps, always run full screen on your display regardless of how much of the screen they really need. As a result, that weather app, mail program or stock ticker is going to use the entirety of your PC's display.

ModernMix enables you to run multiple Modern (Metro) apps in individual separate windows on the desktop as well as launch them from the desktop. Running Modern apps will also appear on your taskbar where they can be pinned for quick access later.

Features:

  • Run Windows 8 Modern apps in a window on the desktop
  • Display and pin Modern apps on the taskbar
  • Explicitly close Modern apps by clicking its close button
  • And more!

How to get it:

ModernMix beta is available as a free 30-day trial.

Purchase ModernMix today for only $4.99 and receive a free update to the full version when it releases in the near future.

Just got and tried Modern Metro. I really like it. It is great to have the metro apps in a window on the Desktop (where I do most of my work ). These ideas that Stardock comes up with to make windows more user friendly are amazing. Funny why Microsoft doesn't think of these enhancements!

just like minimize and restore effects doesn't work on windowfx.

Those features are disabled for now.  "Beta" and all that.

the apps don't close when I hit the close button on upper right corner. They stay running.

They don't show as running when I alt-tab, nor do they appear on taskbar but if i move my mouse to upper left corner of the desktop it will show it still running.

The only way to really close the app is to put it back in metro full screen and swipe down with mouse while holding left button.

No, apparently they ARE really closed but have what amounts to 'place holders' for 'recently open apps'...it's a Win 8 thing...;)

Any hardware limitations? Or if your rig will run Win8, it'll run ModernMix?

Thank you Neil Banfield.

You´re the one that´re making win 8 a usable OS NOT MS.

100% :star: !

Yes, and the comments are quite positive....apart from the weird one boasting about buying an Ariel Atom  [and yes, if I had the money I'd have one too] ...;)

That's about it ...

Don't use the "Metro" UI, but now I have a few apps running on the desktop, very nice. Well done, Stardock!

I was trying to use Netflix with this, unfortunately it doesn't work as I hoped it would. When I browse on chrome, the media is paused, also, when I click on my desktop when Netflix is on the second monitor, the screen will turn red. I just updated to 1.0a, I didn't notice this behavior on 0.95.
