Today we are releasing a significant update for DesktopGPT that delivers features to improve keyboard navigation as well as several updates as requested by the community. The update is rolling out now but if you open the settings panel (hit F9 or click the drop-down box) and click About and “Check now”, your app will download the update.
DesktopGPT is the easiest way to interact with the latest models from OpenAI. In this new release, we are adding the ability to bring your own API key if you are already paying for a premium tier from OpenAI – simply drop in your key and as long as you have available credits on your account, DesktopGPT will use your API instead of the built-in solution. And for all users, we have added the latest GPT models 4o and 4o-Mini
Also in this release are several updates that will make keyboard navigation easier including setting the default hotkey to Ctrl+Alt+O and you can now view your history by pressing Alt+H. And if you forget a keyboard command, hitting F1 will now display the keyboard shortcuts along with additional help information.
And what would an update be without several QoL (quality of life) updates too. In this release, the chat template now supports Markdown, hitting the hotkey to launch DesktopGPT will now hide the app if hit again, added Settings as an option to the System tray icon and more.
DesktopGPT is a tool that we started using internally, especially the templates functionality, and are now bringing it to all of our Object Desktop users. At this time, the app is only available as a feature of Object Desktop, a suite of apps that includes Stardock’s best applications, like Fences 5, Start11 v2, Groupy 2, and a lot more.
If you haven’t tried DesktopGPT yet, you can learn more about it on its app page here. And if you have any feedback, make sure to let us know as several of the features in this release were the result of direct feedback from our community.
