Is this an addiction?

Is this an addiction?

Can't stop

I can't stop going to Wincustomize. I change my desktops almost everyday. I am constantly experimenting with skins old and new. What gives? Is this an addiction? My wife says it's legal crack!

Hi, my name is deb, and I too have another man. He sits at the foot of my bed every night, begging me to awaken and turn him on, only to open up firefox and get another skin/theme fix. Although he's getting old, he's still going strong, and nothing in sight to make me think he may need to be retired. Just a few joints replaced(memory), maybe a new hip(harddrive), and some bandaides on his digits (I love you key #6!!!), and in a few weeks he'll be fine. Sure, he gets new clothes (skins) every day, but there is only so much love a woman can put into her man.

Is this an intervention? Please I'm jonesin'!!!!!

Ok Deb....so you dress and undress your other man, you've obviously invited him into your bedroom and provided some first aid, but you've made no mention of the other-other man's take on all this.

Have you been given dirty looks and the silent treatment over this love affair? Have you ever had your password changed secretively....candles lit so you think the power's off? If not, your addiction is only in its early stages and there's still hope.... The fact that you even have to turn him on says alot. Addiction = shouldn't even be off in the first place.

Yesterday the front door was locked behind me when asked to check the mail....the measures my other half will go to

3 hours later I finally crawled into bed

Remember, the computer is a time machine.......... If you want to move forward in time 3 hours, sit at the computer for 5 minutes......

Right on, BoXXi....but I've time-shifted considerably more than 3 hours. I'm reminded of the "Time Machine" with Rod Taylor, with the sunrise and sunset scenes rapidly passing....mine don't change so quickly, but when dusk and dawn seem only moments apart for days on end....well... time travel seems less of a sci-fi fantasy

My wife calls my computer my 'girlfriend'

My wife named my computer Samantha, go figure. Only time she gets any rest is a quick reboot. Plus Sam is high maintenance, always demanding a new wardrobe, upgrades, new software, the list goes on. You all are right, maybe Brad should put a psychiatrist on staff, help us with some the pains of addiction.

The pains of addiction.....only come with: getting booted/ISP down; power failures; puter downtimes/in the repair shop, and recently for me, when the power cord is sabotaged by wifey....luckily I had a spare. If Brad puts a shrink on staff, I sure hope the doc is also available by phone.....

I'm getting real worried now...wifey just came home with some new gas lamps and is talking about converting to gas hot water and cooking....guess the power bill ain't gettin' paid....given the candle deception failed miserably when, in desperation, I fired up my 'other woman' in the semi-darkness and began to undress her in preparation for a new suit

i changed my opinion. this is not an addiction. i call it: PASSION! addiction seems a little harsh for a word. so i say WC is a passion for those who love "dressing" their PC's to suit thier own taste. Repeat after me: PASSION!

Passion is if you take your laptop to bed. And I do! You know, some people light up a cig after sex? I turn on my computer!

Yes, I'm obcessed! I have zillions of ideas for skins spinning around in my head...and sit endless hours in front of my little friend, trying to coax Photoshop to do what I want it to do!
I pore over the Tutorials at Skinartistry...practicing and practicing a new skill in PS just to get that skin to look like I imagined it to be!!!
I see a wallpaper at DA and just have to make a skin to compliment it!!! I see others making Rainies and just have to figure out how to do it myself!
My shoe cupboard is gathering dust as I have switched addictions....I'm old...who needs more than 4 hours of sleep anyways!!
Luckily, I am no longer in the working for a living years... so how else am I supposed to fill my days? Soaps suck, can't loft a golf ball to save my life, the arthritis has severley hampered my painting.... can't knit and would rather eat bugs than get back to the gym! hubby, on the other hand, is a triathelete - when he's not out in the shop making some wonderful piece of funiture or another, he's running, biking or swimming endless laps.
But neither of us is addicted. Hell no, this is a life style!
I can quit anytime I want....yeah...I could just ...well maybe after I get this one skin just right, this start panel needs a little something......and I wonder how these colors would look together....

I'm a little embarrassed to admit it, Bill, Jafo, but I have on occation thought of someone I forgot to email that day, "during!"

Betty, breath in through the nose, out through the mouth. Hyperventilating is not allowed at Wincustomize! And um...bring him indoors!!

"during!"

Hope the other half doesn't see this. He (or she) might question their ability to please. Or maybe this skinning thing is just a stronger urge. .....naaaaahhh!

He or SHE? Hehe! HE!! And he questions nothing, as long as I deliver!

...with or without the laptop!

On the wall behind our bed, I have a picture pinned up there that I look at during, thinking; dreaming about, It's the Dell D510 and is an affordable, lightweight notebook with long battery life that provides the essential features. I remember of the old days when I thought of nothing but my wifes long slinder legs and soft thighs, but now it's the long battery life of the D510 and to undress it and dress it with WC skins. Dr. Wardell can you help me please, I am a WC Addict and need help.

In putting all jokes aside, I come to WC for the enjoyment, and because my enjoyment level is so high, I spend alot of time here. Being that I'm rather incapacitated due to arthritis, I don't get out alot anymore, so I need to occupy my mind and time with something more entertaining and interactive than watching TV. If I'm not here, I dabble on the computer in various ways and have begun to teach myself to use things like Paintshop Pro 5.5 and Skinstudio. I'm far from producing anything of note as yet, but who knows, maybe one day.... So for me, it's all about the satisfaction and enjoyment, while expanding my horizons at the same time....before my first computer a bit over 2 years ago, I never gave a thought to any form of graphic art or its appreciation, and now I'm TRYING to create some, RATHER SLOWLY. Yep, it's definitely pleasure and enjoyment over obsession and/or addiction, don't ya think?

Mr. Webster defines:

Addiction as - a compulsive, psychological and physiological dependence towards something...

and

Passion as - an eager outreaching of the mind towards some special object such as art, etc.

Passion is more rooted to a person's being:
While addiction can be (ahem)"rehabilitated"; passion can not. Wincustomize certainly is a passion for those who love art. While we call skinners as "artists", we should not forget that end-users of skins are also artist in their own way. Combining the works of skinners, arranging them them in the desktop, and making them functionally smooth, is a form of art itself. It is their passion, their desire to have a better desktop experience that drives them to visit Wincustomize as often as possible. It becomes rooted in their person. A person derives pleasure, enjoyment and fulfillment when he indulges in his passion. It makes him better.
