I've tried to read through the 400-odd posts that are under beta feedback so I don't beat the proverbial dead horse, but here's my addition and not all of it is totally new (it’s a bit long, so I've tried to seperate it by topics (might be a bunch of them, but I'm curious what people will say - if that offends you, sorry, and don't read my posts):
Seems like a very promising game, lots of fun already. Played one game on small, normal difficulty and in the middle of one medium, hard. I think there is a real concern with having gameplay compatible with both single and multiplayer, but as we are beta testing a singleplayer version, I think we are all focused on the gameplay for 1 person. No matter what, improved AI behavior will be a welcome addition.
1)Planets and Resources:
I love the scarcity and variety of planets,
I like the scarcity of crystal and I love the dead asteroids. For anyone who has played the old ROTK games, dead asteroids remind me of the old "field" battles outside of cities. (now why cant that be made into a multiplayer game? - or maybe it already has) I think the system will make the game more interactive (turtles a little out of the shell) and adds simple complexity to multiplayer strategy for expansion.
How about getting rid of the possibility of colonizing dead asteroids - just leave them as empty gravity wells that play a strategic role. They will give an additional challenge for expansion and give some additional purpose to having probes. (you could increase the frequency of dead asteroids as well)
How about asteroid belts? Or having all ships in asteroid wells take a given amount of damage/time? I'd love to see additional complexity in the wells, like fixed or floating debris (mentioned by others).
