Earth Hour should be called "First World Hour!" Let me tell you how the Third World lives (Egypt, China, India to name a few). Switch off our local power for an hour and you'll find muttering, grumbling and possible rioting (especially when football is on the telly). Seriously, the Third World pollutes the most(Cairo ranks in top twenty cities for pollution), and until the World starts to educate us we're not climate change/earth warming/ iceberg falling worriers. Heck, in Cairo,

Simon, this is a great post. I am almost 61 so my life is now in the hands of the organs of my body. If the lungs develop an antipathy to smoking I could live another year or two. If the liver is tired of the gallons of beer filtered through it, it may close down within 2 to 5 years. Then there is the Pancreas--a fickle organ that gets irritated quickly and sometimes develops cancerous nodes due to diabetes or high alcohol consumption or some other unwanted guest. The pancreas is a unforgiving o

Recently there was a "hullabaloo" --ergo, fuss, about the waste of money spent on anti-depressants by the NHS (National Health). No argument from me as I suppose many people are asking for anti-depressant drugs as their lifestyles get out of hand. Financial problems, emotional problems and stress seem to be modern day life-style maladies and many people are looking for a quick fix. <span style="font-size: medium; font-family:

I read Brad's blog with interest and he makes many important points. I thought I'd tell you what piracy in the third World is like. I live in the Middle East . Most computers bought here have copies of Windows that serve a warning every time you open your computer: "This copy of Windows is not authentic. Please contact us for advice." Fact is every computer leaving the shop has a non-authentic copy of Windows pre-installed. The same applies to Microsoft office

Well this article does contain some adult content but only because of the topic. I have been watching my spam lately--over a month or so--and most spammers are concentrating on the male member. Gone are the fake watches and the faux handbags. Viagra has submitted to Cialis and that seems to be dying out too. Fake degrees are once a week now (sorry guys!), and the dirty girls from Houston hardly get a shoe in. The

I think you were a little out of line with your profanity towards KFC, Dharma. She is the Christian she is and no-one can change that. I personally find a lot of Christians are hypocrites believing that they are closer to God and condemning those who are not. However, when you think about it, many non-Christians are just as hypocritical. Wouldn't it be nice to live in a perfect World--unfortunately Homo Sapiens is one of the most imperfect animals on the planet.

My only comment on Afghanistan is that the Taliban are pouring in in their thousands, mainly from Pakistan and the mountain areas. The reprisals after 9/11 were not enough and the Taliban have been underestimated. They are determined to take back Afghanistan and they may well do so. The only solution is to purge them and there are not enough troops to do so. The war with the Taliban could go on for years. You mention "remarkable patience' as far as the USA policy in Darfur is concerned

The President of Sudan, Omar Al Bashir, regarded by many as a war criminal, has decided to whip his flock into a frenzy over a re-print of the Danish cartoons . He has banned Danes and Danish products from his ravished country and has brought thousands of Sudanese out in protest into the streets of Khartoum. Don't these people work? Don't they have nothing better to do than march through streets promising to cut Denmark

Sorry KFC, giving flowery details, and even sizes, don't impress me. Are you saying there's a floating city above us (I jest not)? Heaven is a figurative term and an imaginary place. Logic, and my philosophy, tells me that we experience Heaven, or Hell, on Earth long before we die. After death there are only memories.

My wife (God bless her), intrigues me with some of her housekeeping habits. I tend to ignore most but she is a hoarder, "destroyer " of appliances, and, at times, a threat to the household. So I'll set the scenes and Joeuser wives can have a go at their husbands in response! Why do wives: Try to stuff 15kg of washing into a 7 kg washer and c

Certainly Obama is a phenomenon. He has charisma in loads but he lacks the savvy and experience of Reagan. The time is ripe in America for someone like Obama to pull support. After all G W Bush has made so many mistakes and it is becoming so obvious. However I back John McCain to win. We'll see.

Some good points from all of you and I do understand your feelings towards people who have threatened the USA. I have no problem with a death sentence at all. However, most Americans clamour about human rights and what you are going to show the World here (and, believe me, you will be villified for it, ), is a bunch of animals taken from their "kennels" and marched in chains to a courtroom set up by the military with pre-conceived notions of their fate

Good points. There are some historians that say that Nuremberg was flawed but I'll not argue on that. I'm not suggesting that they be made comfortable--I'm just asking why they are not being tried where the crimes were being committed. Guantanamo is technically on US soil but they are being tried at a detention centre, not a US court. Move the court to where they are, you may say, but the place is not suitable for a major trial. Will the trials be fair

At long last some of the suspects behind the most vicious attack on American soil will stand trial. Personally, as I believe in the death penalty. I hope they will be executed. However, and I often seek advice from my American friends---so please enlighten me- I wonder why they are being tried at Guantanamo. Here are the things that worry me:[more] - They shou

Egypt kicks off against Cameroun in twenty minutes time. It is the final match of the African Cup Of Nations tournament and this city of Cairo has been feverish, itchy, jubilant and excited since they qualified for the final a few days ago. You cannot get away from the flag waving, marching supporters,wedding-like groups of cars hooting in unison. This is a huge city-
