Re: planetary resources - I'm talking about the ones you can harvest using an orbital improvement, not the ones on the surface you can unlock in a tile. I'm also not talking about all the orbitals you unlock from techs. Normally those resources used to be on maybe 5-10% of the planets, now it's on zero planets out of several hundred. In the past I could check each of my planets and at least see that it had a resource like Xanthium that existed but was greyed out until

I've noticed two things - I normally play on a Steam deck Version: 2.94 Details: planets don't have special orbital resources. I've played 3 games and none of the planets (200 or so?) have resources that can be gathered with orbital resource generators (Xanthium, Promethium, etc). Not a one. Before 2.94 this was not an issue. How to reproduce: Start a new game - any orbital resources? <b

FWIW, I agree with others here that the change went a bit too far on crime. Granted in the past it wasn't an issue (at all) once you got your minister of justice in place, so it might have been too mild before. But now it's too much. Even with a minister and the planetary orbital improvement on your core that lowers crime 20, I'm getting > 40 crime with few ways to mitigate it. You can build the prison complex improvement, yes, but even then it wouldn't be enough -&

Here is my working list of tips for new players. I've only been playing (this version of) the game for a week so I'm sure there is stuff I'm missing: Customize your civilization to match your play style. You can get extra points to spend on good traits like +10% manufacturing by taking penalties on less useful stuff like deceptive or intimidating. A civilization with Spore and using Legendary ships gets you a lot of level 5 planets, if you assign leaders to th

Okay, I had a Civ that definitely didn't get it, but this was earlier on and it might have been bugged (there were certainly times when I had to reload the game to clear out a mystery problem). Thanks for letting me know, I should have re-tested that. [EDIT: confirmed it worked correctly, I was wrong]

Hello all, I had a couple comments on the civilization builder. 1) The first thing is (I think) a bug. If, as a non-Arcean template, you try to take the Arcean ship line "Legendary Ships" the tool-tip tells you that you will get a culture point for each ship. But really, this benefit is associated with the race template

Archers seem to indeed be bugged this release. I have never seen one hit since installing the last patch. Similarly, the rain-o-stones from the stone elementals never hits. I'd even go so far as to say that almost all ranged spells are broken? No point in making archers right now, they just go to waste. And, just a general game balance point - I really think the game is too easy - probably because the summons are too powerful. I've made sandbox games wher

I dunno, Arseface420 (does that mean you get "sh*t face baked?"), I mean you are right that you want a lot of resources, but that cash can come in really handy. For example, instantly leveling up your new capital ships before they even reach the battle, putting bounties on your enemies (especially the ones with imminent pirate attacks that you are fighting anyway), and buying the crap you need on the black market are all handy. Obviously you neeed to be well balanced, but I generally find a us

Yeah, I've never found it worth the money to do my own exploring, I just wait for the AI to do it and seize their planet. I've not yet played online, so maybe that strategy would change. Mind you, I'm not saying Ice planets are worthless, but compared to a Terran (with the high pop, log and tac caps) they seem more worth defending with a decent local militia.

I've noticed that the number of NPCs in a sector varies widely. Sometimes I'll see a relatively worthless planet (volcanic /ice) with more local militia than a nice terran planet. If I come across a lame planet with a boatload of defense, might one assume that there is an artifact there to discover, or is that just a pipe dream? Oh, and another thing, is it always safe to assume that if you take an original terran home planet from another player that its not wor

Planetary conquest. Seems like such a waste to have to blow everything up and rebuild again. Where does all the space debris go? Eventually it'd be like a cloud of junk filling your sectors. I like the strategy aspect of having to plan assault transports. I think that bombardment should stay, but maybe be nerf'd a little (it seems that planets die just a little too fast, at least when they are coming after me! When *I* bomb people, it takes forever :)

Sorry if these are already known bugs on 1.02 - I have noticed that a couple of times after I have left the game paused for a while (about 5+ hours) and then unpaused that the game has sped up to a super rate. I double check my games speed with - and ==, and verify its at 1x, but it still seems like 8x and things are zipping all over and I can't slow it down. I've also noticed on my 24" LCD at 1900x1600 (8800gtx, XPSP2, etc.) that the left-hand pane does not w

How in the interface can I find what my attributes like ship quality bonuses are? I don't see them in the civ manager. For example, I had two events that gave me ship quality bonuses and I wanted to know what that turned in to. As a secondary question, when you get those bonuses, does it apply just to the planet or the whole civ? Thanks!

A poster just raised the idea of Heros in the game - I'd like to raise another - mercenaries. I really liked that aspect of ofther games. Here would be a chance for that luck attribute to be useful - you'd get hire-on orders. "suddenly lord chunky the battle general appears and offers to sign on with his fleet of 4 heavy fighters - the cost will be 2,000 credits - do you wish to accept?" Anyway, it could be like the precursor "you found a bunch of corvettes" event but wi

Seems from the formula that defense is most universal at a value of 1. Since wrong type of armor works as the squareroot, the squareroot of 1 is 1, so strength 1 defense is fully effective against all attacks. This way 1 shield + 1 chaff + 1 armor is defense 3 against all attacks. So any well defended ship should use something like 6 shield + 1 chaff + 1 armor

Hey Froggy - I'm running in 1900x1200 rez on ATI X600 and a 24" dell LCD. I also get the stuttering (which is crazy because I have a dual core p4-3ghz with 3gb ram). When I run the full screen tutorials, the bottom 15% of the screen gets cropped - no doubt due to my wacky screen rez. It probably needs some scaling or something. I can send a screen cap if you like.

Guys, the beta looks great - I'm looking forward to a great game. I found a lot of the same issues that others did, so not point in hashing those out further. My biggest complaint is that I'm stuck with mini-balls, when all this time I thought I was quite the manly technologist. Please include "great big balls" in further releases, so we have more offensive potential (with our ships). P.S. I live really close to your offices in Livonia, can I se
