Lets see if I can help. First off I am going to assume that you don't know that you can build a free Capital ship. So with that in mind, when you start your next game, build a cap factory and get your free ship first. While you are building that get your mines queued up to be built. After that, I usually send 2 scouts out on auto explore. Just right click on the button. Next I figure out which world/s I am going to take over first. I send my cap and 2-4 combat frigates to take care of the

Beta 1, and haven't had second thoughts about getting a beta for this game. It is the best game I have seen in quite a while.
Of course I am figuring that this is all based on the performance of the betas? Which I would figure were not coded to be as fast as they could be. I expect the retail version should at least handle the load better. So there might be more ships possible then again, we will have to wait and see.
There is no galactic travel. It isn't even in the lore. But that doesn't mean it will not be in SINS2. And truthfully I don't see how you could manage that large of an empire with in a real time game.
I think it is an updated refinery. But only the devs know for sure.
