After re-installing Decor8 on a windows 8.1 machine (after removing some weeks ago), I noticed some "Ghosting" around the tiles when I switched from the desktop to the Metro screen. It was worse when I minimized the metro tiles. Didn't see this on my original install. I tried flipping back and forth several times and rebooting. Have since removed D8 because it's my production machine. Don't know if anyone else has had similar experience. Wil

The feature is already in 8.1. Right-click on the taskbar and select properties, then navigation. Check the box to go to desktop when signing in.
Installed 8.1 yesterday with WB service turned off. I have it off when I'm running software that uses lots of CPU and doesn't skin well. After I rebooted (several times), WB was gone. Starting the program gave me a repair dialog. Haven't gone through the process yet, but wanted to know if people had the same experience when upgrading with the service running.
I had a similar issue with mine and after some research found that the process called SearchFilterHost was running up the CPU usage when the computer was idle. Also check into the policies regarding system maintenance on your machine. Lots of stuff gets launched, like defrag and disk checking, by the OS when the computer is idle. I set most of these to run monthly or weekly instead of daily. My machine runs lots cooler (and the battery lasts much longer).
I recently unpinned an app from the start menu (autocad) and then decided to re-pin in an effort to get the jump-list to show up. Now the icon doesn't show and I can't seem to get it to re-pin. Using 1.16, have rebooted after a couple of attempts, and expanded the icon space to be sure there's plenty of room for icons.
Program already does. Just select use desktop background and configure to your tastes.
Downloaded V.99 today and set background to match desktop. Work perfectly. Just the feature I was looking for. Thanks
If you want to make a dock without running another app, just make a fence at the bottom of the screen. Fill it with your favorite dock icon/shortcuts and hide the windows taskbar. You can use "standalone stack" to make fly outs and exclude the dock from autohide. Nice extra feature for this program.
I have Vista32 Business and don't have any problems with unhandled exceptions when I click Tools. I however, don't see More Tools in my menu window. Guess I need to change resolution long enough to see what's really going on.
Just downloaded. So far So Good !! Nice to have a way to toggle desktop on and off. My laptop screen is set to 120 DPI (aging eyes !!) and the info windows don't scale correclty. (I'd insert a picture, but can't seem to make it work here). Thanks for the beta
Nice article, and I pretty much agree with everything and the added comments. However, I use my computer for lots of vector rendering software like AutoCad and a couple of 3D lighting analysis programs. When I was using WB, the programs took as much as 5 times longer to load compared to when I was not. Still think WB is a great program for Vista, but unfortunately I still have to get my work done !!!
I've noticed that whenever I apply a non-vista skin (Namely Xenomorph), the next time I restart my computer the DWM service doesn't start. Not a big problem, all is fine once I start the service manually. Running Vista Business with most current updates. Have tried the apply/restart test with other skins (Vista/WB6 compatible) and the problem does not exist.
Same here. Thanks. It's nice to get things fixed so quickly.
Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try !!!
I use a toolbar, like quicklaunch and WB skins seem to reduce the size of the icons. Is there a way to force a certain size or do I have to edit with skin studio. if I have to edit, where do I find the setting. Thanks
I just started using WB again after a lengthly upgrade to Vista. The taskbar Icon size for StealthOS appears to match my original size, but most other skins are much smaller. I have not found a way to change the size in skin studion or WB, does it exist. My resolution is 1680 x 1050 and I use large fonts. Thanks
For me "Show folder in a menu" doesn't work at all with Vista 32bit. Mine didn't work either until I turned of right-click transparancy. Apparently the sub-menus don't show if there is any level of transparency. Haven't tried it with one of the non-transparent vista basic setting, but why bother !!
Has anyone been able to figure out a short-cut to Vista's new Personalization menu? On the Control Panel Menu, right-click on "Personalization" and select "Create Shortcut". Go to your desktop and copy the new shortcut somewhere (I used the right-click program directory). Add the shortcut to your right click menu. Worked for me !!
Decided to give it a try. Appears to have solved the problem. Thanks for the help. If it starts up again I'll update this post.
It's actually MS activesynch that runs when the smartphone is plugged in. Don't think it has anything to do with app skinning, but I'll give it a try next chance I get.
Have had problems with WB off and on, but decided to try the lastest version again. Everything appeared to be fine until I plugged in my smartphone. Got the "remote code execution" warning when I unplugged and then explorer crashed. Tested under various scenarios with the same result. As soon as I unload WB, all problems disappear. Any suggestions or fixes. Thanks JLG
I deleted a skin and the next time I tried to open windowblinds (5) I got a diaglog box asking for a file data source with a DNS name. I tried restoring to previous build, restoring XP to last weeks settings and various other options. I can access all visual styles from theme manager. but not from display settings or WindowBlinds. Thanks for any assistance JLG
If you mean the Outlook Today Page, it's a web page that you can modify yourself or replace with a custom designed page. If you mean the pages like inbox or calendar, they are defined in the same way other programs in your OS are defined.
I've been using right click as a theme repository. If you set it to use WB skin, it creates a directory associated with each WB skin used. You can then put things like style sheets or "Top Bar" type images in the repository and they are copied into the "current skin/popup" directory. Then path things like active desktop styles or topbars to the current skin directory and they automatically change with your WB skin. I even put a DX widget for each s
If you looked at the forum under rules for skinning, you would find that including permissions is a requirement for posting. Obviously not everyone goes by the rules, but most do (including me, since I use both) JLG
