I hope people don't mind me rezzing this topic, but I am getting back into Sins again, and rewatched Davin3's replay when I realised something. I don't have the foggest idea what I should be looking for when it comes to replays. I mean I can see how he scouts, and get a vague idea of build orders, but other then that I'm kinda at a loss. So I was wondering (and I hope this isn't a silly question, forgive me if it is), what do you (or what are you supposed

As a newish player to SOE and a huge Star Trek fan, I just want to say thankyou to the dev's of thsi mod. I picked up both Entrenchment and Diplomacy simply because I wanted to run this mod at it's best. Now all I need is a lot of practice to start learning the game so I can win from time to time. Once again, many thanks to the SoA2's devs.
Thank you Darvin for all your help :)
Well I've won a couple of games now, so I'm getting better. I'm rather unwell at the moment, so keeping track of multiple things at the same time and fasting thinking is rather hard for me at the moment. I'm beginning to think that something a tad bit slower like Gal Civ 2 would better for me to play. Having said that I love Sins. The artwork for the Advent is wonderful, and I am having a really fun game with the Vasari at the moment against an easy AI. With re
Right now it appears to me that I'm colonizing and building my ships too slowly. How can you colonize and build effectively without going broke? First of all, let's make sure you're not making the obvious beginner mistake: are you purchasing planetary population upgrades?
Thank you for your response. In answer to your question, yes I am puchasing planetary population
Thank you for writing this guide, unfortunately I'm still being beaten to a pulp on easy after reading it, but at least I have a better understanding of the game now. Hopefully time and practice will help me improve. EDIT Update: Just won my first game YAY :-). Still kinda feeling a tad overwhelmed, but I'm having fun which is the main thing :).
Hi All, I love RTS's. Unfortunately I've never been very good at them. I would really like to get into Sins, as the game just looks and plays great. Unfortunately it doesn't matter what I do, the AI stream rolls me even on easy. I've read the beginner's guide here, I've gone through the manual twice, and the tutorial’s multiple times. Can anyone please provide me with some tips for beating the AI using TEC on easy diffi
You can mod their power and frequency (materials to do this coming soon!), you can design them out of a map, and if you take over a Pirate base, not only do they stop coming from that base, you also get a nice goodie We'll consider other in-game methods. Yep you still need to build that capital ship factory :) What I do (and hey even though I played in the beta I'm still a new player *smiles*) is build up my infrastructure, develop metal and crystal extractors save up for a capital ship factory, create 5-7 frigates and start to explore. I'll try adding 2 civic stations to my build list and see how the trade outposts work :). Sins is a fun game, but there's a heck of a lot to learn to play it properly. Not that thats a bad thing :)
Well I reinstalled XP on my second drive and loaded up Sins beta 2. Unlike Vista, it ran perfectly, no crashes, no screen freezes. I wonder what is causeing the freezes with the nvidia drivers on Vista?
Ok I can confirm that the freezes occur with the Nvidia drivers 158.24 Interestingly enough no other application on my system is effected by this, only SOSE Beta 2. I was able to run Beta 1 with no problems.
Well I don't want to make this thread go off topic by debating the virtues or lack there of of Vista, but I do have to say that this is the first and only problem I've had with the OS since I picked it up when it was released. Every application and game I've run has worked great, even those that other's have said they've had problems with under Vista. Anyway I'll continue to test Sins under the new Nvidia drivers and report back any problems I encounter.
I've just downloaded and installed the very latest nvidia driver. As I haven't had a problem with the driver in the past with other applications, I hope I wont have that problem now with my other applications. Driver version is 158.24.
Ok the error message I'm getting is this, "Display Driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered." @lordkosc Me too
Hi I'm having the same problem as uglycow, the game freezes and I have to use task-manager to get out of the game and then back into the game where upon the game unfreezes. One interesting thing that I've noticed is that when I've used TM to get out of the game, Vista displays an error message that the display drivers had temporally stopped working and that they are ok now. Next time I encounter that message I'll write it down word for word and post it here. My system specs are, <b
But you DID stop, and you posted here..... I am disappointed in you... Aye only because it was getting late and my wife was nagging me to shut the computer down and get some sleep <br
I couldn't wait to get into the game. Everything worked perfectly, no bugs, crashes etc. The game looks and plays wonderfully. Congrats to the devs for a job well done. I couldn't stop playing the game. Can't wait to see how the game improves and develops
One thing which would be nice to have is some kinda of victory point / galatic conquest indicater to show how close you are to winning the game. Other then that I'm loving the game
Cool can't wait for the 27th to come around
Ah this is cool, can't wait for the beta.
I preorder, by last count that makes me #24 however I think a saw a couple of numbers being doubled up so I may not be. *grins* oh well
*chuckles* As a wise person once said, "It will be out when it's out". As an even wiser person once said "I want it now!"
Aye this is the month I've been waiting for, the chance to finally get to see Sins Of a Solar Empire in action. Knowing my luck they'll drag out the launching the beta until the last day of Feb. (Only kidding.. please don't do that, pretty please )
