And whats wrong with a gaming company JUST releasing the framework. Modding then *becomes* the game. /me hearkens back to the hours spent building and trading projects from Pinball Construction Set ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinball_Construction_Set )

Long . . but very interesting.
It's by design. Why should people that bought a game have to work to play it? Enjoy.
Let's not forget, most importantly: Sins is Chuck Norris.
I can only imagine, as a dev, the time it would take to remove features and still maintain any kind of balancing and keep the game fun, true to the full game, and cost effective. Unlimited 90 minute games for free. it almost seems like one could sell the game and create a leader board for that. :)
It's not the devolopers choice where it sells, but rather the distributer.
Stardock tried to get it distributed . . but who wants to take a chance using valuable shelf space on an unknown game. Hopefully they change their tune next time Stardock and/or Ironclad come knocking.
Be nice if it was on the launcher. :)

bit-tech gave it a 8. Nice write-up too. http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/2008/02/24/sins_of_a_solar_empire/1
Just tell me if I should wait for another week or buy it directly online...
Why *not* buy it on-line? I can't think of a good reason not to.
And a very promising quote too: "After finishing second in North American PC software sales twice in the weeks following its release earlier this month, Stardock's real-time strategy title Sins of a Solar Empire climbs up to take top honors in this week's sales results. Given its impressive sales performance in the face of competition from PC favorites like Call of Duty 4 and The Orange Box , Sins of a Solar Empire is likely
" North America : 1. The Orange Box (EA Games), 2. Sins of a Solar Empire (Stardock), 3. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Activision), 4. The Sims: Castaway Stories (EA Games), 5. SimCity 4: Deluxe Edition (EA Games)." Not a bad start for a first week. :) " Aft
I like this link: http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/sinsofasolarempire for my review action.
This is a total cop out. I am a professional game developer and I know exactly what is involved in voice chat
Time ot build your own game then and post back with links so we can see what you've done. ;p
What are the specs of your pc?
Have you tried downloading from other servers?

there is no other servers you have to get it through the stardock program.
You can try another server. In Stardock Central, Tools | Settings | Internet | Current servers | Choose the other one.

do take into consideration that not everyone is in the same fiscal position, and that not everyone has a reliable, high speed internet connection. I presently get paid primarily in cash, making it difficult to to pay for things online. and my internet connection is patchy at best.
Stardock takes money orders and ships CDs. :) It'll be more interesting to see if 1) Stardock offers expansions at retail and 2) if the retailers have learned anything about Stardock and Iroclad a
Congratulations on a job well done. So many hours went into making this a great game. How exciting it must be for SD and IC hat they could be changing the industry. Thank you for your passion, your effort, you expertise, and your caring about the customer. Your success is just as much a product of who you are as what you sell. (But . . you happen to create and publish some awesome product). Again, congrats.
IMHO they should be ashamed charging 40-50$ for an unfinished game that is lacking the biggest part of it.
Heh . . unfinshed is open to interpetation. I think it's exactly what the developers intended.
I was wrong, and I apologize.
Thanks for coming back and posting. It speaks volumes.
I have a social contract with Stardock. I buy their major products sight unseen and they put their names only on things that are really really good and so far, I've never been disappointed in the 6 years I've been a customer.
Amen
