When I give pirates a mission to attack another player's planet, how do I know they attacked that players planet? Do the pirates have an option not to do my mission even though I pay out 6k in credits?

Update, I tried playing with the map editor, to create a 6 player, 4 star, 2 player per star, 1 star for pirates map and I keep getting issues. I haven't been able to get fully connected systems, there's always a leaf node for each player that sits behind their starting planet that only they can get to, is there a way to fix this?
I got diplomacy, enjoying it. I found the map Triumvirate and I love it, with the following exception, the extra resource system. I want the exact same map without the 4th sun for a resource system, or just make the system be pirates only. Is there a map like this? I really like having a small system with 2 players each to keep the game managebly small and then being able to interact with the rest of the galaxy from a single conquered system after you
I was surprised when I first placed a gauss turret and it had a limited range - so I naturally assumed that it must orbit the planet to defend it - is this a possible enhancement for the underpowered tactical defense - have the turrets orbit the planet?
