Another benefit of friendly culture that you guys forgot to mention is that it prevents enemy culture from choking the allegiance of your worlds. It sucks when your frontline worlds are producing 20% of the income that they should be because the AI built broadcast centers and you didn't.

People knock the TEC ultimate weapon (Novalith Cannon) alot on this board, but at the very least it can save you alot of time on cleanup. It can destroy an asteroid colony in a single shot and you dont even have to move your fleet there to do it.
I've become a huge fan of the Akkan cruiser over the past week or so. I think the "colonizing ability is a tad overrated, but the "targeting uplink" makes the ship worthwhile in and of itself imo. By the time I get my 2nd Cap ship (Kol) my targetting uplink on the Akkan is usually maxed out. Hitting what I aim at is of utmost importance to me as well as extending my weapons range.
I could be wrong, but I dont believe that the targetting uplink helps your Kol hit things. Isn't
Take a Sova Carrier as your first cap and embargo them.
That might work in 1v1, but Grindstone is 8 player. I'll give it a shot though.
Ok, so how do I beat a map like Grindstone, which has zero choke points and is so crowded that I cant colonize more than 2 planets without fighting the AI?
Try the large map called Grindstone, I cant get anywhere on that map even on normal. Its so crowded and there are virtually no choke points.
This is great intel. Who woulda thunk it, a bomber's firepower is practically wasted against anything smaller than a Kodiak. And I've been using them against siege frigs. Speaking of Kodiaks, they're damage is darn good against anybody. Another surprising thing is that all of a cap ships damage is anti-cap? I thought that the point of having 4 different weapon types was to be able to damage different opponents. Sure the Kol's beam cannons look anti-cap, but I kinda thought maybe th
