So how far is your graphics card overclocked? [e digicons][/e]

It may not be on a larger scale then sins, but definately gives enough "now" action, Supreme Commander. That was the last RTS I was playing on a consistant basis before SINS. Actually, that was the driving force to get me to upgrade to a Core2Duo system (E8400 overclocked to 4ghz with no overvolt). If you're looking for something to keep you busy with lots of combat, give it a shot. It can be had for pretty cheap now as it's gotten a little old.
I'll second the call for this, picked up an Acer Aspire One a few months back and can play SOSE on it, but I have to set the screen for 1024x768 in scrolling mode to be able to get to the menus. If someone in the community even wanted to make a mod for the interface so it fit on a 1024x600 screen that would be great. The game itself actually plays decently on the device, it's not fantastic and you may tick some people off if you play a larger multiplayer game, but for single p
I've noticed with Entrenchment that it has some type of "product activation" in it. I use a shared drive for Vista and XP to keep my install space used to a minimum between OSes, I updated in Vista, and when I went to XP SINS was complaining about not being activated until I went into impulse and redownloaded the whole deal. As I understand it, SINS didn't have activation in it before.... Is this going to be part of the retail release of entrenchment??
I'm waiting for another good coupon to pick up the entrenchment beta. $8 sounds like the magic # for me, not that $10 is too much, but this is my way of offsetting the fact that there still is little to no multi-core support.
You were playing with others that had 1.12 for sure? I noticed when using it, that you can join a game with other people playing on 1.11, but not sure what happens if you actually launch into the game as I didn't try it. I've actually had pretty good luck with 1.12 and 1.11, but I always restart the game after I've finished a round, it's become common practice...
Saw Blair in game a little earlier tonight, he was working franticaly on the desync problem while fending off a small horde of questioning gamers. Kinda funny... But good to see them working on it, I'm sure after countless hours of digging through debug logs they will find whats causing it. Blair, I'll be watching for your post / report on what's happening with it! Thanks again for the "visible" support, it's nice to know there's at least one man behind the mirror.
Looks like all good stuff! I do have to ask one nagging question though, does this finally have an update to leverage more then one cpu? Currently the other core is only used for texture loading, but it would be nice to really use my system to it's fullest potential for some massive maps. [e digicons][/e]
Yeah, I posted this in another thread, but the online community has become badly split with people running the 1.05 version and lots of others going to 1.1beta because it's a better build of the game. I bet most of the 1.05 users don't realize in impulse they have to ask for pre-release versions. Anyway, I did do some sync testing today with someone online, but we didn't have a sync error.
Played a 1v1 game earlier this evening and didn't have any sync problems. I normally don't have sync problems though, it's typically mini dumps that are my problem. They need to hurry up and release 1.1 even with the way it is, the online community is become severely fragmented with users in 1.05 and others going to 1.1beta because it is just a better build. I personally have not had a minidump in 1.1beta, but when playing 1.05 I normally use the solar sins addon.
Agreed, it should be cheaper directly from the maker themselves, but the point above is valid, they'd like to unload extra copies they've got sitting around. Remember they didn't pay $39 for each of those boxes, so chances are they're still making a profit, just not as much. I am one of those people who started off with an "improperly obtained" copies and had a blast with it, and was also very surprised by how Stardock conducted themselves with relation to copy control and DRM s
I recently got an Acer Aspire One 150 model that seems to be pretty capapble of playing SoaSE. At least at first glance it seems to be alright! I set my Intel GMA settings to scroll the screen when in 1024x768 mode, then set my dekstop res to 1024x768. If you look in the user.setting file you'll find a section that says "VideoIsWindowed", I set that to true. The above settings let me run it in 1024x768, but I have to scroll to see the entire thing and I have
Yup this is a problem of SINS not being properly multithreaded. I've noticed on my friends AMD X2 5000BE system @ 3ghz the game only uses one core and pegs it at 100%. I have an E8400 that is clocked at 4ghz and when I play sims it splits the usage across both cores and it runs about 50 / 50 % which is EXACTLY what I see with applications that are not multithreaded. Not sure why the intels behave differently, but I'm sure it has something to do with core a
Would really like to see better multi core support so I could play some really huge games without hiccups. 2 4ghz cpus are better then one if the game knows what to do with them!
Sure I understand that dual core support is not an easy endevor or as like flipping a switch. However, there is this little nugget posted: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/301716 And it is indicated by Yarlen that dual core support may appear in a later expansion pack. As I understood it, they're rolling out 3 individual expansions so that users can pick the ones they want and the developers can spend more time polishing each additional faction to be added.
I would be sure to preorder it without question if I knew this.... Does this update finally fix the multi core cpu problem? As in, multithreading is only used for texture loading and not for anything else? It would go a long way when I make those week long endevors with a 500+ planet system. :) With the coupon it should be around 7 or so bucks, a steal at that price!
