Ditto, Kryo. This fixed a similar problem I was having - same error in debug.err, but different symptoms. Couldn't start a new game after loading or creating one in the same process; I had to exit and run the launch program over again. It was also happening before I got a chance to design some ships - kinda sucks I have to do away with my RACECONFIGXMLs to get it to work. Eggghhh... I haven't narrowed down which one causes it, so I'm not finished yet! ;p ps Mk, shoulda read that par

For other options to be available, I'm thinking the petrochem inflation will have to rise into the stratosphere (which it may), so that we overcome our technophobic, political backlash resulting from the Three Mile Island incident. With nuclear power, separating hydrogen from H2O via electricity and/or heat becomes viable over gasoline... or s
Higher prices for gasoline are inevitable because of what's called "Peak Oil". Basically, because the amount of oil under the ground is finite, eventually our ability to pump it out of the ground will "peak" at which point less and less will be available. In the meantime, worldwide demand for oil has increased dramatically (China, India). You only need to do the economic math to figure out where the price point is headed.Unfortunately this does mean that our standard of living will hav
a simple polite email to a meta-torrent search site is as effective as copy protection. unless the torrent site and ownership is shacked up in... say... Sweden, hmph. Different culture, different views I guess. (I'm deliberately sitting the fence out on this particular controversial, heavil
Hmmmm.. I noticed they included the comments button with this post. I'll be sure to cook up some decent trolls/flames that this thread has been opened to attack... maybe. 7 days? pffft. Just what are you all hoping fix in that time? The toilet seats at GNN? back in my day, we were lucky to even get a release date that didn't include 'TBA, 1st Q this, 2nd Q that, etc, maybe in the next year or so'. Now, it's news-worthy if
a measely 5 days... as an addendum for game editors and mods, you may not be able to make custom maps, but you can change a number of general aspects of the game via the /data folder.... and you don't even need to know xml! It's mostly ascii text (numbers), so you can open it with just about any text editor. I recommend galcivwriter; you can get from apolyton.net (i think). Just be sure to back up any files you edit, so that you don't have to reinstall GCII everytime yo
a few good articles on www.brokentoys.org (aka The Rantings of Lum the Mad redux, sans in-depth game criticisms.) there should be no way that Jack actually wins as stated on the forementioned site, there should be no way that this guy gets airtime. Period. Giving people like him any attention (namely the widely transmitted
on the upside... the really, REALLY small upside, Jack Thompson kinda resembles a sour, grey, and strait-faced version of Jon Stewart attacking corrupt neocons, no? There's some humor value somewhere in there by itself, i'm just not sure how. Oh yeah, I can't think of anyone else on this water covered boulder we call home that is in more need of being commited. He's whacked, pure and simple. But to be fair, maybe he's convinced that in the wave of partisan Republican su

I have noticedl that tile enhancers don't work on some planets yet on some planets they do., not just captured ones. It appears my racial bonus to pq% also only works on the capital planet. I may have to test this some more. : /
Right now the beta has some sort of online verification for 'activating' the game. I haven't had to use this but I think the stardock proggie manager did it anyways during that last update. Doubt it'll make it to release and it wouldn't be all that friendly on dial-up/satelite users or people who got the game outside their gaming computer if it did. (this isn't Symantec or Micro$oft we're talking about.) I understand the paranoia though.
try looking for the demo /post-release/ ... that'll be feb 2006 barring any unforseen delays.
".random events baSed on specific types of planetary improvement" I do hope you mean beneficial as well as harmful events.. *hint* *hint* "And there was me trying to turn an area the size of britain into one massive factory building!" That's nothing. On xasica, the banks withdraw YOU. That is until the discovery of xeno corporations.
mines= more expensive... bigger output. factories=vice versa.
HA! I guess having a world with nothing but mines and power plants isn't such a bad idea after all PS: I disagree as well. Wait for more of the game (such as colony buildings/improvements) to be implemented before making first and final judgements on the gameplay.
apologies if someone put it elsewhere. but: Make a public bug database! If a bug has already been addressed, give us some webspace to know about it so we can avoid spamming the mailbox or the forums even. Hell, why not "go sourceforge.net" all the way; add a priorities column! So maybe a few testers/players get miffed if they discover critical game imbalance A takes backseat to fixing single player campaign B or some other bloody thing <br/
you do mean culture, right? it's never been a problem for me in the beta
The custom ship designer really brings back my building block/lego crafting glory days of so long ago . Particularly brilliant , i think, is the shift from emphasising quantity of colonies/cities to the quality of colonies via the number of buildings they are allowed and the abilit y to specialize in the types of output (economic, industrial, research, etc) fro
