You mentioned windows firewall, etc. It might be an obvious question but I am assuming you checked your ROUTER's firewall as well? All else failing try running Sins on another comp while at your house. If you don't have another comp borrow a freinds. If your freinds dont have any computers able to run Sins, take yours to their house and try it. Reason being is to be sure its an ISP/Router type of issue or if its just your PC.

www.portforward.com Not that I don't agree with you, I like how StarCraft has always worked on pretty much any network aside from school. However I could never get Warcraft III to host games no matter what I did, always claimed I was behind a firewall even when I was on dial-up at the time and NO (and I mean NO) antivirus/firewall software installed (wiped the HD to make sure, and no windows firewall either) But its a good idea to learn about port forwarding anyways.
Depending on the fleet mix I prefer to target capital ships with my own offensive caps while missile frigates go wild. I also like to have 10 or so heavy cruisers to serve the multi-purpose role of anti-frigate spam and targeting capitals.
I play Vasari a lot and must agree with Cykur's strat. When I see I am up against advent I got heavy on the missile frigates and upgrade sheild bypassing tech. If you see a Vasari player your best bet is early-mid game harrassment to gain advantage. Missile frigates cost crystal so if you can deny him that you should do well.
