For those stuck with Windows 2000 for whatever reason, how long until Stardock Central stops working? I'd like to be able to get the "last windows 2000 compatible patch" for my games before it gets closed down.

(Personal opinions only here) (snip) Not once have I ever seen one of the auctions I reported taken down before it ends and someone buys the bootleg. Ever. And as far as I'm aware (I asked) they don't have any way for the company to report such problems aside from the same avenues regular users have available. What you are looking for to protect Stardock IP, is the VeRO program. I'm not sure of the process to get into i

That 1 hour time limit is kinda what I thought, and typical of some companies that I don't do business with any more. You might remind players of the demo to skip the cinematic intro if they want to try as much of the gameplay as possible.

I dl'ed the demo, and made the mistake of watching the whole intro sequence. I got the same "time has expired" message at about the time I was going to start the first combat mission. Perhaps I did play for an hour or so. I don't think I played long enough to get a real feel for combat, or anything other than the tutorial.

@S1Genocide: Probably not worth posting debug.err here, email it to stardock instead. Well, unless Brad pops up and says "keep doing it". @OP: Heh, yeah, forgot about large screen rezes. CTRL +/- might be a better choice though. Just saying I just realized I've spent more time reading Dev Journals than I have actually played this game. That's just sad <img src="http://images.s

I'd try switching to a different anti-virus/spyware/etc. program, and seeing what PC-Cillin missed. I still like avg (http://free.grisoft.com), and Spybot search and destroy (yeah, odd name, http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/). I'm assuming PC-Cillin keeps some sort of log somewhere that would help tracking down who is really after your card info (generally not stardock, they've probably already got it unless you bought GC2 retail, or are posting on a friends account). I find it horrible, but it doesn't seem that Stardock has anyone who likes doing UI work. I couldn't let this one go ... UI work is what Stardock does to provide for its gaming addiction Check out pretty much anything besides Gal Civ on www.stardock.com

For some reason, I can't run GC2Launch.exe When I try, I get a "gc2launch.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created." window popping up. Finally managed to track down where the log was created. From drwtsn32.log (go Dr. Watson ) Application exception occurred: App: (pid=1048) When: 5/9/2006 @ 15:34

Your big blue text always looks like you're shouting. You might try this: 1. Attempt to reproduce the bug, or just play normally until it occurs. 2. Immediately save the game, and quit. 3. Send the resulting debug.err to [email protected], along with a description of the bug you've seen. That should help them track it down.

Stardock Central, for the win... Either that, or you're trying to get a game going on a non net-connected machine. If that's the case, copy and patch may work, as long as you don't copy sig.bin from one machine to another. Sig.bin is generated specifically for each machine, and copying it over from one to another is meant to fail. For better assistance, email [email protected], or post in the Support & Bugs forum instead. Hope you get it working <img src="http:

Revised Algo: 2) Don't remove events with too many duplicates, reduce the weight of duplicates that aren't happening around some other highly weighted event. This would allow mentioning things like "A heavily upgraded military starbase was built in Drengin's Home System, preparing for a multi-wave fighter and transport attack to take that system. Drengin surrendered to Captain Player shortly after the attack succeeded..."

If you've got a bunch of ships just "stacked" in a square (and not setup as a real fleet), the targetted defending ships get picked at random. So, if you've got 9 constructors and 1 guard with weapons stacked in 1 square, that's 10 possible targets for the attacker to hit. That gives a 10% chance of the first target being that guard, and 90% chance of the first target being a mostly defenseless constructor. That's why it's usually a constructor that gets hit first. A couple of things you might want to try: Spend credits on diplomacy, and check out some of the computer's planets. I've noticed that they like to put multiple embassies on planets, which will definitely make it harder to influence them to your side. They might even be purchasing embassies on planets near your border, and moving colonists in to them, all of which are counted toward influence. On some 'easy' games, I've managed to

Also, the latest beta 1.1 (soon to be released) includes some rotation control dials you can click on and rotate parts with. The original game had nodes you can put on hardpoints to change the rotation, but that didn't always help. The beta's ship editor is even better than the original.

StarDock Central is a download manager and software activation tool. Once you've got the game installed, and updated to your liking, you can uninstall StarDock Central until the next major upgrade that you just have to have immediately. If you happen to upgrade your OS, it's possible that the Activation will have to be done again, but that doesn't actually require SDC, or even a network connection on the c

DLsearchbar is nothing to do with StarDock, and is probably not being installed. Several spyware/virus detectors are overly stupid when it comes to detecting the differences between Stardock's installer and DLSearchbar. I believe it's listed as a known issue somewhere around these forums. Dlsearchbar is definitely spyware... However, the detection of it is likely a false positive. In other words, it doesn't exist on the disk, your detector is either broken, or set to de

What about the original Galatic Civilizations? You know..the one for OS/2. Back then iirc one could destabilize civilizations and take planets via espionage Yep, and you could also refuse the AI's surrender, if you wanted to try and take over the whole galaxy by force. I remember doing that a

nVidia makes nice graphics cards. Having said that, their drivers and developer communication need work. For instance, back 3 years ago, when the Geforce 3 came out, there was some sort of graphics draw distance problem, where occasionally things would be drawn as if they were in front of something, when they were in fact behind them. In particular, light sources would often go through walls. Developers in those days worked around that bu

First, you have to start a game with the "Metaverse" button. Then you play through a game until completion, or maybe your retirement (not sure). At that point, you should be able to post it, though that might happen automatically. I haven't completed a metaverse game yet.
