I gave up on sins a long time ago because the multiplayer community was near dead. Have things gotten better or did the expansion splitting the playerbase make things even worse?

You can just use stardock central instead. Google should be able to tell you where to find it.
I'm a big fan of the revelation because reverie completely removes enemy capital ships from engagements and provoke hysteria adds some much needed sieging power. I don't think I've ever seen anyone but me use one in multiplayer though.
Advent revelation for reverie TEC sova for embargo vasari desolator for it's sieging power I don't play single player though and I imagine that these would be much less useful there.
I prefer to lead with the desolator. It's devastating against planets and structures and favours the aggressive hit and run style of play that vasari lean towards. It's not something I'd like to stick around with in a fleet battle though.
So, the vibe I'm getting here is that you shouldn't harass your enemy. Just send in a large chunk of your fleet and go balls to the wall until he stops you I guess.
Utter nonsense. It might have 4x elements but sins is still primarily an rts game and the usual tactics still apply. Just make sure you lead with a siege cap or carrier. I usually capture 2 asteroids then attack. Every building and point of population you get damages your opponent's economy and forces him to d
It'll last a week tops before the pirates find a way around it. Not that it matters because securom is not coming anywhere near my pc.
Have you tried simply rushing them? You should have a much larger fleet and they wont be able to expand very quickly. The game could well end once their frig factory goes down.
There are as few as 20 people online at certain times of day. It makes me wonder how much of a future this game has. It wouldn't surprise me if the only way to get a game will be to organize it in the forums in advance come one or two years time. I think it's mostly because this kind of slow paced strategy game attracts a more mature audience who are busy with things like work, uni and family and don't have time to live online and zerg rush all day like the kiddies.
But all this becomes absolutely useless once you get a Jarrasul to Level 6 - Drain Planet not only does a whopping 45 DPS for 30 seconds at a range of 6600, but it also steals 450 metal/crystal while doing so. It's cool-down is for 180 seconds, but the Jarrasul's base bombing attack and Karrastra Destructors can continue dealing damage throughout until Drain Planet recharges. And once the planet is dead, the same Jarrasul can capture it. This makes the Evacuator the ultimate anti-planet s
The carrier is superb you're just using it incorrectly. Screw the repair skill; Having 4-5 bombers with microphasing right off the bat makes it excellent at harassing and destroying enemy structures early game.
You should harass your opponent heavily if you're going to tech to RA. I always send my cap to their space after I've cleared the first asteroid. You can't afford to let your opponent expand and tech in peace when you're going for a fast tech.
The Phase-out-hull ability I don't find to be very usefull. All it does is drain your anti-matter. No anti-matter means no speed boost, no speed boost means no quick retreats and circle flyings. I read somewhere that at max level you can keep 5 ships phased out at once, but thats only going to go on for 30 seconds or so and then you've used up all your antimatter. Whether or not keeping 5 ships out of the battle for 30 seconds is usefull, you'll have to decide on your own. I don't think t
I get a 50/50 mix of flak and lrm early on. Flak counters lrm spam and advent carrier rushes so they're always a wise investment as far as I'm concerned. For cap ships I like the evacuater and marauder combo because they excel at hunting down and killing cap ships when used in tandem. Gravity warhead + phase out hull means there's absolutely no escaping from them.
Phase out hull is so versatile and has got to be one of the best skills in the game. Using it defensively is great for saving ships from focused focused fire and screwing up your opponent's micro. It's also great for killing fleeing capital ships as it interrupts phase jumps. Throw in a whale with gravity warhead and there's no escaping you.
Radience + mothership is a combo worth mentioning. The radience uses animosity whilst the mothership sits next to it and restores it's shields. It makes for a very tough nut to crack with guardian support.
