Let me be up front about something...I like Stardock, like Impulse, and would prefer to buy all my games through it. I like Steam too, and I like Valve. That said, the idea that Impulse competes with Steam is ludicrous. Most steam users arent even aware of its existence, and if they are, arent going to be swayed by Impulse's catalog of games. If there is not significant overlap on the games being offered, there is NO retail competition to be had. Its n

Im not sure I really want to see Starbases be significantly *tougher* to kill. As it is, a Starbase with 2 or more defensive upgrades with its bajillions of health and shield points takes a large toll on any but the very largest of fleets trying to kill it. Ultimately, all stationary defenses are meant to be speedbumps, not a replacement for a fleet. I find upgraded starbases far more annoying than even an equally sized mid game enemy fleet (unless I choose to just go around
The Egg is probably the best all around ship in the game. When upgraded, kills planets , caps, and structures quickly, keeps caps from escaping, colonizes, makes you money, and is reasonably sturdy. It's almost never a bad choice.
I hate threads like this. Sins is great and I love it, but you put me in an impossible position. Ive been playing games for a long time and its not even close to top ten. Thats nothing against sins, its just there have been a lot of really great classic games that had a much larger impact. It would help if you narrowed the category a bit...like "top 5 space stragetgy games", or even better, "top 5 space tactical RTS"...then we're in business. &
The notion that one can replace Cap ships with a handful of standard fleet attack craft is appealing, but maybe a little misguided. Cap ships are not replaced by attack frigates, HC, or carriers. They are replaced by *siege frigates*, since no other unit in the game can attack planets, which is the cap's ulitmate purpose. If you dont build caps, you must build siege frigs. If you factor in the high expense vs general uselessness of fragile Siege frigs, and the
Hi! I was wondering what the best way to cancel my pre-order was. Not trying to make any kind of statement here... I just lost interest, at least for the time being. Sales? Someplace else?
In contrast to my pessimism from last month, this time around, Im thinking earlier. Im going to forecast Mar.20 The reason for this is two fold: 1)A month is not the time that someone would push back if there were severe problems, just polish issues. I get the idea they were 98% ready to go anyways, just had some rough edges to sand. Stardock has a record now of releasing earlier than projected dates...they really will try to make everyone happy if possible
My expectations are not dashed...Im fluent in pre-release Devspeak...allow me to quote myself : Id settle in for the long haul, tide yourself over with Dark Avatar, SupCom, the C&C3 demo thats due out next week, EU3 or whatever. I know the unmistakable sounds of backpeddling when I hear them, and now I wouldnt expect the beta to start until sometime in March (if then). This is a good thing...its mo
Playtesting the rough early Beta of the game isnt going to satisfy you as a player anyways because so much stuff will be borked, broken, biffed, boffo, or whatever B word you'd like to use thats the point of beta testing, we fix things. and besides, it'd still be satisfying. probably more so if we can shape the outcome. I didnt say it wouldnt be satisfying, Spamn

Sins is more like SupCom than anyone dare let on, which is why it may be a good idea to learn from SupComs mistakes. I'm afraid you may be right. I had allowed myself to hope it might be more like EU3 in space, but it seems its just going to be just another (despite a lot of nonsensical "Homeworlrd meets GalCiv2" hype) fairly standard Factional combat RTS. But, we wont know until the beta, and Ill reserve judgement until then. <
[Suggestion] I realize that youre hampered by practical concerns in this area and so much of this is wishful thinking, but... In lieu of being able to design one's own ships in-game(a la Gc2), could a wide lattitude be given to the tolerance of harmless custom artistic content in Multiplayer games? What I mean is, as much as possible, allow us to use our own custom ship skins and models in multiplayer matches without tripping a cheat flag. I would think
