Braid's easily one of the best games ever created. I hope y'all jumped on it when you could; no "Shift"ing available here (well, you could wait until the next deal, I suppose).

What I would find most interesting is how people responded to the first question. I found that videos (whether trailers, cinematics, or the intro movies) all rated below the actual in-game graphics. After all, we are seeing the in-game stuff all the time, so obviously those would be the most important...wouldn't they. That's not to say that a trailer isn't important as a marketing tool to bring people in. It's only in comparison that it fails to be a priority.
DA:O has probably the widest margin of must-buyness to excitement in the history of all my gaming. In other words, I've had this on my radar forever and have been involved with BioWare since at least BG but I've never been so unexcited about a Bio release. At any given time when they give out new info they seem to cancel it out by wacky marketing. Doesn't matter, as it's been a will-have since before it was announced, but they sure know how to unhype a game. Gah. I've actually gotten
Perhaps this is an odd question, but what is the effect of being either "good" or "evil" in Elemental, if there is one (for the custom race-factions)? Is it purely a plot point that certain race-factions are good and others evil for the pre-made sets? It sounds like there was going to be the ability to choose, but I think the idea described earlier about having your actions determine your "alignment" might be a better way to go. You can have a single back story but allow the choices the playe
Excellent points made above about the "two races" vs. "twelve factions" issue. I'm interested in the game and even I had the same reaction, so imagine what people who are just coming to it for the first time are thinking. Variety is the spice of life and all.
Well, I'll vote for Fx since I've been using it since beta days. Nothing against other browsers from IE to Opera, but nothing the others offer would make me switch back. Switching to Fx was easy at the time, though, because it offered more than the competition.
I would prefer to see the options of Camp1 while, for those that don't want to delve into that level of management, there is also the ability to change the difficulty to make the choices either more or less necessary to accomplish the goals of a given scenario. Essentially, as the AI becomes "smarter" with the difficulty level rising, it is more important to manage the details. On an easier difficulty, the player should have the option to automate some of these processes so they don't have to
I just had GCII:DA crash, but not during a game. This time, it was going from one campaign (In Defense of Drengi) to the next (The Hearts & Minds of Robots) and was calling up the description of the next campaign when the game shut down. Briefly, it flashed the description screen with the text all scrambled gibberish. Below is the usual debug.err log from the second attempt (I loaded up the end-game save and retried, but it crashed again). Of note is that I was able to "Continue" the campaign th
Hey subje, I have a 7800 GTX and am running Vista Ultimate 64-bit and everything is smooth for me (see messages a few above for my debug.err log; I have a dual-display, one at 1920x1200 for gaming and the other at 1650x1080). I noticed that it's showing that you are running an older version of the game (1.5 from Jan) instead of the newer updates, so you might want to try updating the game to see if that helps. It definitely solved a slowdown issue for me. Other than that, when
Thanks for the info, kyro. I'm downloading the update immediately. I guess I should startup SDC more often. I was checking the front page of the galciv2 site and thinking that 1.7 was the next big update. For the Tactical Zoom Level, you are right that it was at 100%. However, it must not have gone into effect until I quit and re-entered the game because I had turned that up when I started the gam
I have GalCivII Gold Edition and have brought it over from WinXP to Vista 64-bit using the SDC archive utility. While playing a campaign in DA last night, it got to a point where the game froze and a Windows Error message popped up outside the game. I ALT-TABbed out of the game to see the message and it was related to being out of memory and being unable to autosave. However, just cancelling/clearing the message allowed me to continue in the game. It happened again at the next autosave. This tim
Thanks for the reply. If I feel it worth the trouble, I'll go ahead and reinstall over top (backing up first, of course). Everything works fine right now, after all.
Yes, you can play the Dread Lords campaign in DA (I have the gold edition and just found this out). I wish someone had told me you could do so because I played the entire DL campaign with the DL executable. Today, when I went to start up DA, I discovered that the first map I was playing was the first mission of the DL campaign! Lo and behold, you have a choice between the two campaigns when you start up DA. How unfortunate, as I could have been playing DA all along. Ah well, now I can j
I recently transferred my games over from WinXP to Vista using the archive utility in SDC. While in WinXP, there was a Gold Edition icon set in the Program Files that I used to start the game. When I restored my archive via SDC in Vista, it created the two separate GCII and GCII:DA icons (and I had to activate both separately) but there's no "Gold Edition". Now, you might be thinking "why would this matter?" Well, it doesn't matter for playing the game, as either of those other icons se
That's what 1.6 should take care of. You still need the new nVidia drivers though. I do have 1.6 and the latest nVidia drivers. I think the problem is that I'm playing the original GC2 (non-DA) campaign right now and the patch only fixes the DA portion. Am I correct in that assumption?
Will the graphic engine tweaks assist with slow/choppy scrolling/zoom in Vista? In XP, the game played super fine but in Vista the zoom, especially, is sometimes ignored altogether. Is this just a function of Vista being graphically hungry? I have 2 GB RAM and a 7800 GTX with an Athlon 64 x2 4400+. Vista Ultimate is the 64-bit version. I expect it's just due to Vista, and since I'm dual-booting with XP I can always go back and play on that if need be. Just hoping to switch some things o
Ah, good to know. At least three local EBs didn't have it listed in their system, let alone in stock, so I was a little worried I wouldn't be picking it up after all. I'll keep an eye out.
Okay, just like when the original release hit the market, I can't seem to find any stores that even list GalCiv II Gold Edition as a possible new release let alone have it in stock here in Canada. It took a while for the original GalCivII to filter into stores and the delay resulted in my moving on to other games. The same thing is happening this time, too, as there are at least three other games in the next month that have my interest. Note: I have no interest in an online purchase tha
Ah, except you didn't say where your Wal-Mart is so people can rush out and get it. Still waiting for my pre-order, patiently, but someone else might be interested in tracking your location.
Sorry, but I got a real kick out of your subject line "Am I slow or is it just me". I don't think you should be concerned about the time it takes you to 'beat' the game. As long as you are enjoying it, that's what counts. I find that some people start comparing themselves to other players with different styles too quickly and become disillusioned
You may not have yet read the notes, but this isn't necessarily an EB issue. I'm not a fan of EB, but apparantly there is a shortage of the games sent to retail, including online outlets (like my Amazon.ca order). I think everyone is pretty much in the same boat, unless you get it from Stardock directly.
Who did you pre-order from and did you not get a copy of your order details and how to proceed?
I'd much rather all my cash go to stardock than via some publisher. Fortunately, since Stardock is developer and publisher, you don't have to worry about it.
It must be flattering to Stardock to know that folks that aren't sure about their game or their programs still pre-order and rush to get the game as soon as possible. I mean, they must have made something incredible to make you want to jump all over it like that. On the other hand, if you weren't sure about the game or the company, and now threaten to not do business with them over t
Yep. That's the trouble with all those 'can' vs. 'may' questions. "Can I have my money back?" is a different question than "May I have my money back?" but most folks read them the same way. Perhaps that's what happened to you. Ah well, just think, you have another short bit of time to enjoy the sunshine, eat, and sleep before the game is there.
