New to series: Question on Entrenchment in Sins of a Solar Empire Sins Forums

I'm completely new to the title, and have purchased both the original and Entrenchment. Question: As a noob, if I play Entrenchment, will I get the full flavor of the game? (i.e., is Entrenchment the Original PLUS expansion or is it a different expansion that does not have all the features of the original?). thanks for any help! pat!
