When you get wrapped up in a heated Impulse vs Steam thread and madly hit F5 to see if someone agrees with you. When you fire up Impulse just to see if there is a new patch for Entrenchment that Ironclad hasnt announced yet. When you consider if its feasible to start your own religion so that you can be exempt from taxes and take donations to pay for your electricity bill to play more sins. When you think Scientologis
lets say if Stardock was in that position of Direct download dominence that (hopefully) they would use their power wisely, but you never know, which was also my point in that you cant automatically assume that a monopoloy of a direct download service would be a bad thing to customers (i can think of several benefits from it). What are the supposed economic benefits to the consumer of a monopoly? I'm askling because we did have monopolie
On the other hand, once cant claim for those owners, executives and developers at Steam and other behemoth sized companies like EA and AB. Hell on nearly every other forum "sponsored" by that ilk, if one even comes close to criticizing a developer or manager or policy one is pretty much banned and the bigger they are the faster such things happen. Yet here you are taking pot shots at a president of a partner company, directly interacting with
steam is that legitimate direct download client service Maybe for games. But Stardock has also a non gaming side about windows customization and uses also Impulse (and that before Stardock Central) for it. And I think that Stardock Central was available before Steam. What should have done Stardock as download service for their non gaming stuff AND their gaming stuff?
Now that deffinitely makes sense. Th

Edit: Also, Privately Owned means it doesn't get bought out as long as Frogboy says no.
Yes thats all conjecture, your absolutely right, just like Frogboy saying what if Valve gets bought out.

It's more a function of economic reality. 'Evil' or not, monopolies, and oligopolies for that matter will strip purchasing power from the end consumer.
I agree that the industry could do with some consolidation. I don't want to have to mess with a half dozen Impulse/Steam clients any more than I want to mess with a half dozen instant messenger clients. But I passionately believe we need at least 2 or 3 of them.
If your not part of the solution then your part of the problem. There are already a dozen different dir

This thread is so pointless. Frogboy, its pretty clear you have already made up your mind. Theres not even a point to ask a question unless your going to be open about the responces instead of trying to direct responces one way or another. Go ahead with Impulse, you have a great company, a great business model and i'll deffinitely be a customer. However if you prefer to have your games reach a wider audience, one that doesnt have the chance to fail (many things can easily fail in these troubl

Personally i much rather just have Steam than Steam AND Impulse. Both do the same thing in a great way. Stardock could make just as much money off of steam and support their games even better than trying to support their games and impulse.

I can confirm what mspilot said, as this has happend to me too. After this it seemed to trigger all kinds of wierd vassari starbase shinanigans

As of beta 2, this bug is NOT fixed. It happend countless times for me with the Vassari starbases. Sometimes only 1 weapon of the 3 would fire (fully upgraded weapons of course), and other times none of the weapons would fire at all. Sometimes none of the weapons would fire yet some ships would get damaged, but only a fraction of the damage that they do recieve when it does work.

As SkoalFyfan just said. I run a core2duo /w 4gb ram on Vista 64 & have a 8800gt. Was playing single player fine but when i'd play multiplayer it would crash (at first i thought it was xfire but wasnt). So of course me being so anal about my computer i backed up my files and proceded to format the sucker. Fresh Vista 64bit install, all the latest drivers and MOST IMPORTANTLY Vista Service pack 1. Then 2 or 3 updates from MS update. Works flawless, played 3 MP games one of which
