Would have said the graphics card to be honuest. See if its possible to pick a 9800 pro up for the cheap. Probably more ideal than ram as it keep the system in moderation.

Whilst shiny graphics are nice & all, ultra high resolution textures do take more work crafting, which would take time away from optimization.
I am not sure we should suffer for the small amount of people which are still using old desktops/laptops/grfx cards, either upgrade or get a console.
Unfortunately its not just a small amount of people using older equipment. As valve surveys have showed, only small amounts of people have access to the latest high end techn

Hey havoc, The game doesn't have a campaign as such. Instead we get an advanced sandbox mode in its wake (so more Galactic Civilisations than Homeworld). It was decided that game mechanics would be perfected first, with the possibility of a story based campaign coming in a potential future release/update.

So figured i'd get one of these babies up and running so we can all post little snippets of joy we've garnered from the games release. First off, congratulations for creating what has to be one of the best races in a strategy game i've played: The Advent are simply fantastic. Stylistically they look awesome, and their music is simply sublime. The tidying up of the menus is also a big improvement over the betas. A lot of this actually comes from the artwork which i've got to say
If you've already preordered from us for download only, you will have the option on release day to buy a box for $5+S&H.
How will that work? Will those of us who only went for download only (such as myself) get an email asking us to send out Credit Card details to Stardock if we want a box, or will it simply be the usual way of purchasing things via stardock (so giving an option of paypal etc)? Would we also be getting the collectors edition?
I'd love to see a series at starfleet academy...
Well that's what we were supposedly going to originally get, back when Matt Damon was being linked with Kirk. Instead we get Chris Pine (complete unkown really, but may turn out quite good) saving the past from the Romulans with the help of Spock: which is about as much thats known of the current plot.
I dont who Simon Pegg is so I dont know if he will be a good Scotty. He does not look the part to me at this point in time.
Simon Pegg is just about the only reason i'm willing to give this movie a chance. Comic genius who became famous via movies such as Shaun of the Dead (cult classic) and Hot Fuzz. Although it'll be interesting to see if he can pull of a Scottish accent. Honuestly though, a time travelling Spock? Really wish they'd left Star Trek dead with Nem

I'd be happy in DoW if my units could at the very least all head in the same direction when ordered to. Wonderful game, but god awful pathfinding. Battle Realms incidentally had a very good AI (whilst we're thinking of strategy games with an adept AI).
it's based on a post beta 4 build. Not gammas. It's pretty dated.
So it would seem then that i have managed to find the most irrelevent preview for this game on the internet. Nevermind then.

51 Replies 71,988 Views

I would imagine that by now something beyond beta 4 has been distributed for preview, otherwise if it is only the developers who have access to Gamma we can pretty much disregard anything we read. If this isn't the case however, it'd be a major disappointment come release (since i did pre-order months ago).

Well the preview was very much based on the campaign-skirmish mode that we've been hearing about which is why talk of the AI worried me. Hopefully as you say Malice that even at that stage (10th Jan 08) the AI was still a placeholder, and not the predictable walkover that 1UP make it out to be.

Was just browsing through 1up.com and came across another preview for Sins; http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3165369 It raises a few concerns about the tactics and capabilities of the AI, and subsequently the campaign itself. Not sure if this preview has been mentioned before(this forum after all is ruthlessly efficient in covering SoaSE) but was curious as to whether the issues 1up raise are a product of playing a pre-release candidate (and have now subsequently been resolved)?

Basically Nvidia cards go from GTX to GT, next comes GS with G being the lowest model in a range. Each version is basically a cut down version of the one that comes before it (so parts that were present on the more powerful version are removed so as to save cost). From what i've read the G version is barely even capable of running the latest games. Hence it is likely that Sins would a, look horendous and b, hardly work. What makes the choice of graphics surprising on the Asus you were l

aladrian that Asus would certainly be a very good purchase. The graphics card is more than capable (equivalent to the Nvidia 8600) whilst the rest of the spec is highly competent. Eteri equally good specs in terms of processor and ram, but the graphics will certainly be the weak link. You'll be able to run Sins, but don't be surprised if you have to lower the resolution, unfortunately. However for things like football manager it'll be great :CONGRAT:

Thanks for the nice attempt at being clever Windexglow, but alas you failed. Moving on, after testing AA settings with different resolutions and Texture details i atleast appear to have got the game to remove the flashing pixels when there's no AA. At one point all my textures appeared to disappear when setting texture detail to medium (so i was just left with grey, or brown ship models) but with them the flikering pixels also went, and upon changing resolution the textures reappeared and atlast

Well i figured i may as well report this problem since it seems to have no sign of disappearing. SINS currently has a very strange flickering pixel problem on Ships and asteroids. As an example i've uploaded a highly zoomed in Kol to show that it is individual pixels that are doing this. I've been trying a variety of different Nvidia drivers released since summer (when i got my new PC) but all of them seem to have this problem <img src="http://img154.imageshack.us/img154/9529/

Only had a few minutes with the game thus far, however two positive things i immediately picked up on were, firstly, as Scorpiana pointed out, the gravity wells are no longer on the same plane; and despite it being a small change, make the galaxy feel infinitely better. Secondly, the music is simply, for want of a another word, awesome. I already thought it was pretty good, but the songs seem to have gone under some major refinements and now sound superb. Give your composer a pat on the back fro

There was a worrying bit of news about how JJ Abrams thought Robbie Williams could be the next Kirk and there was a comedian recently linked with Scotty. As for Indy, Harrison Ford does look like he's getting on in years (still if Sean Connery is in it i will be seeing it)

I'm guessing this is U.S PC Gamer as oppose to the UK one, since i wasn't aware of a SOASE preview in the recent issue.
