The other makes you you look... well like you should be more worried about what color finger paint to use and when nap time is. I hear today's snack is raisins... you might want to skip it. Not to mention the fact that these people are pretty responsive when it comes to real problems, as shown by the fact a company person is the first to respond. There's not really a need for the tone of this post. In future, please remember there are those in the lower age brackets that visit here, and while you have the "right" to use what

It was on for a few weeks and disappeared. I can't even remember if it was funny or not... It was just the whole premise, especially considering it was the 70's. I didn't bring up B5 because they have done, and from what I have heard are planning to do another direct to DVD type thing. I think this WAS
I personally dislike campaigns... I have tried them in every game I ever played that came with one, but it always ended up half done... I would much prefer to see the devs put time into a campaign EDITOR, so that the community could develop their own campaigns. Campaigns, like mods now would be labors of love and commitment. The time spent on one story could be spent on polishing a really good editor. I believe the ability to create fresh stories and content would be far more ef

Well, the basic premise is that you are the leader of a race of sentient asteroids, leading your asteroid people from asteroid to asteroid among the stars, with only small asteroid cannons to defend yourself against another race of slightly larger and slightly less sentient asteroids. I think the basic concept is pretty solid, but we have to iron out some of the details.
As long as the expansion packs don't include a new race known as the "hemorrho

So if there's no facility pre-built at the asteroid, the resources around it are pretty much useless, then? Also, what happens if I accidentally salvaged one of my construction ships or if one of them is destroyed by the enemy? Also through Impulse, but I haven't got that one figgered out yet. I use StarDock central so I can archive the last update in case there is an issue with the new one. It's free, and automatically checks for game updates whenever I start it. T

The answer to your open ended question could be as simple as "putting them in an envelope, affixing the proper postage and dropping them in a mailbox"... although even I, with mind as solid as a steel sieve can safely assume this is not your intention. Valid points all around... enough so to encourage experimentation. Just wanted to say thanks for the debate guys (and girls???), and for keeping it civil. I like the fact there's not a single way to play, and that you can use a style that fits your "person". To me, that's what makes a game great to play. I also appreciate that, for the most part, responses were actually READ before being responded to. And no, it's not April 1st, that was a few week

antracer, you really should try to build scouts at the beginning of the game, it makes for a much more effecient beginning to the game. I've actually steadily increased the amount of scouts I build at the beginning of the game due to how valuable the intelligence gathered is. 3 Scouts and the intelligence they give you, are certainly worth the 600-750$ at the beginning of the game, especially given what else you can spend it on.
I don't see it. No... It just doesn't work all the time for everyone. Apparently, one must have a magic computer or a secret decoder ring or something. I didn't get one of either, so my maps are always messed up too. Read through the GalForge primer, towards the end there are some possible fixes. I myself no longer make maps, and consequently no longer play. I enjoy the creation part as much as the play part, but have little time to actually dig in and mod. The GalForge was just enoug

Yes, but I got the feeling that he thought I didn't build the scouts in the beginning but later.
Um... no. I build scout (not scouts, usually) later. I was commenting on the fact that you build 3 ships I find quite unnecessary first, wasting time and resources, and yes...
Ummm...pardon me for butting-in...but...isn't "first ships I build" counts as "beginning the game"?
...that's what I thought too... This is similar to how I pla
Are you running XP or Vista? I run XP, and had to navigate half way round the world to a folder in the "windows" hierarchy to get to the mods folder. On Vista, I hear it's worse... In the game, click the "show modpath" button and write it down. I used explorer to find it on my machine. I DO wish they would let me specify my own location... I don't have a "C" drive, mine is "I", which makes things quite interesting. T

...Scouts, and intelligence in general, are invaluable. Having knowledge of the layout of the map allows me to send my task force(s) to the best targets for expansion right away, in other words, I get to plan my optimal route of expansion. The difference between jumping to a lightly defended planet instead of a heavily defended one of the same type is simply huge in the beginning of the game. Furthermore, scouts reveals the neutral extractors, which you'll want to get to

Vanechka...Scouts? Why? Kol is the best scout. You've wasted time and materials and cash on three ships I never build. I know what's on the other side of the phase lane... It's a planet and ships. The only time it gets a little hairy is if you happen to be next store to the pirates, which happened one time, and was not an issue... I just made a louie and jumped out... (I play all random maps BTW...) As for getting a trade route going, as TEC it's a second level
I have to say as TEC, I used to use the Akkan as the first Cap, but not any more. I now build the Kol, a colony frigate and then some cannon fodder to support the Kol. I can usually have 2 to 3 planets cleared by the time the I'm colonizing the first, so I can then cherry pick the best of them and have functioning planets while I get the civic research going on the ice and volcanic worlds techs. If I get an ice and a volcanic as my nearest planets,

GalCiv 2 is a bit hollow... Once you get going with it, there really aren't any surprises. This faction will hate you, ths one will like you. With the release of the Twighlight of the Arnor expansion it's changing alot. Not only do the races get their own tech trees making each one play entirely different (for a while...), they are also supposed to release some modding tools, which will open up the game and allow players to make it a little deeper. The best part is the ship d

There is an issue with GalForge. It is not documented because no one has been able to explain or document how or why it happens. I have posted twice about it and received only the completely unhelpful "change the version number to 1" response. Even I have been unsuccessful in duplicating the "non appearing map" issue. I'll add a vote for Mines... Completely slipped my mind when I was typing before. Would be very cool to lay them out at phase lanes, just far enough off to let your ships through. Being able to then have layers/sweepers/detonators on the tech tree and as ships would make for a quick add-on that works nicely. I'd have a toggle for it though, some people would rather not fiddle with it. I'll add a vote for diplomacy too, but will not hold my breath for it. It's not
TThat's semantic. Winning is beating all the other players. I would ask you to compare your last victories... The one where you stomped and had 100 ships left, and the one where you had a rag tag force left barely hanging on. Two totally different dramatic levels... Two totally dif
