Okay I'll chime in by throwing around some thoughts after reading the thread. 1) I agree that much of this discussion comes from a lack of clear definition of what exactly 4x is. I think everybody would call games like MoO , GalCiv and Space Empires 4x. But what do they have in common (apart from the space theme that is)? The most relevant features I woudl list are: -TechTree whitch grants you new features of gameplay Here MoO 2 really excells: Not very much is an "update" l

What I'd really like is a combination of 2 feats meantionend above: i)Borders! Not like real big territory-including borders but rather the first one two or three little squares around every planet one owns. That would make Influence base spamming a wee bit harder, disallow parking fleets (like i sometimes do when i suspect treachery from me wonderfull allies ) AND it would also make planets some sort o

Now with the possibilities of DA would anyone be intrested in creating a Master Of Orion Mod? I know I am, but I also know I'm too lazy to do all of it alone. I was thinking of some tinkering with the weapons names, the species (obviously) and the star names. Sooo waddaya think?

As an alternative you might want to focus more on research than economy buildings, selling technologies for good money (works fine if paired with a decent diplomacy ability). Also trade is a very "cheap" way of generating money (although it will not support your entire Empire/Federation/Hegemony/Quig-Quag)

I went down the "digital download" road here at stardock. *g* Since it's vacation time I didn't want to wait until the 17th and figured a direct purchase would benefit stardock, whom I wish(ed) to support. Payed via PayPal and all went well. The download was something around 200-300 MB (without Videos & Media that is) and it's totally worth it.

Well every race has different hulls to start with but they all use the same parts (jewlery). The basic designs are just that - basic. It's just a hull with some systems slapped onto it. You'll be way better off designing your own ships as there are only very few basic designs. E.G. there aren't different basic designs for every new engine technology but I as a player tend to upgrade my ships with every tech advance. (I mean hey in the end better i

But to take up your analogy with Canada/US theres also a lot of unused Plains 'nStuff where no one is living and still it belongs to Canada. Or take the 15 (?) miles of sea zone belonging to every nation. I would like to see the concept of political borders: You could say e.g. one or two parsecs around a planet of a race "belong" to them an are an no-no for the others except for alliance partners. (Although still leaving the influence the way it is (me

Imo the A.I. surrendering to other A.I. can really "ruin" the whole Situation gameplay-wise. In my actual game I had the Drengin surrender to the Yor after my first (unsuccesfull) attempt of invading one of their planets. The Yor territory was in the lower left map region with me being right center and the former Drengin being upper left! I mean any Yor vessel would have to cross my complete space to "protect" these newly aquired planets! I agree
