I have auto-design turned on in my options so the computer pumps out new ship designs as new technology becomes available -- good time saver in some cases. I also have my options set so that when I click upgrade, the functional components are NOT removed. What's interesting is when I upgraded a couple of the automatically-generated designs, the compuer had both over-filled the design (used 85 of 67 spaces) and had used a component that I had not yet researched (Plasma when my highest beam

The explanation for why many DS9 battle scenes in the later seasons didn't have shields is simple: At the time, rendering times for 3D effects, especially shields, were much longer, not to mention took more effort. It was simply a matter of money since they were doing so many battle scenes. People have attempted to explain it using the polaron beams, but this isn't the case because Starfleet did modify their shields to be more effective. Others have tried to explain it by sayin
I am experiencing the same issue with XP32 primary, Vista64 secondary.
Yesterday, and I downloaded from Download.com I believe. I've since purchased multiplicity pro -- great tool, and very happy it works with Vista64.
I am having the same issue with multiplicity trial. On WinXP primary, upon attempting to load multiplicity, it fails and I just hear abeep. However, the service appears to be running.
Sorry, not another system -- another planet.
Occasionally, the repair cruisers will chase ships out-of-system trying to repair them. For instance, I had a respectable fleet guarding a system. There were also trade ships flying through this system. Apparently, one of the trade ships needed repairs, so the repair cruiser followed it... to another system. I believe the cruiser returned, then -- but I'm not positive as a rather large enemy fleet distracted me at the time. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gif" border=0
Dyson Sphere ! (Note: True Dyson sphere would be entire size of solar system. Well, at least the inner part)
I've also experienced the "Interceptor" fighters not favoring enemy bombers as first targets. I'd like to see that fix as well as some limited flak abilities on all capitals (common sense).
I definitely prefer the new method, and am also interested in trying +/-90.
This has probably been mentioned somewhere... I'm admittedly not read up on all the forum threads... But I basically agree with the premise of what you're saying... the enemy AI would probably be best adjusted in a manner consistent in nature with what you've said -- but I would also like to see (more) AI customization for the player's units. Having the attack modes is a step in the right direction, and possibly even ideas like the "Stances" in other RTS games -- but I feel it would be
- Install was good (albeit access to Stardock Central was slow -- perhaps lots of traffic or problem with ISP [Verizon]). Complained about not being able to activate game, but it worked fine? - Initial load is confirmed slightly faster than previous (from average of around 100 seconds to about 45 seconds) - Auto attack ranges are behaving oddly, or I don't understand them. I believe that they have been reported and will be fixed. - Game continues to be wonderfully smoo
In considering the topic covered here, there is definitely a weakness in the game with the way an opponent can completely circumvent logical defenses and the nature of the positioning of planets and the jump lanes. Implementing a jump-around or edge-jump sequence while a ship is 'passing through' would be excellent. Perhaps an advanced jump drive that can do the former at higher technology levels. A big problem, as others have pointed out, is how the enemy can jump to the edge of your s
In so many games, the beginning is not nearly as fun as the late game... but I'm finding myself enjoying the early game as well, so the inevitable frequency at which my saves will be made useless during the beta doesn't seem so bad.
I just put in about 4 hours, and here are some things I noticed: 1. Rotation of gravity well graphic when zommed on a ship is disorienting as it feels like the ship is moving sideways sometimes. Perhaps a 'pulse' every few seconds to make it feel futuristic/tech-ish would be better. 2. It would be nice to have an auto-fighter mode that would launch fighters when attacking, and dock them when not fighting. To take it a step further, it would be nice to have some mechanism whereb
Most impressed with the devs for a quick patch, even for a beta! I'm already recommending the game to friends not only for how good it is already, but also on the merit of the devs' skill, devotion, and relationship with the community!
I think this is another excellent (customizable/optional) feature for map generation. Being able to be near a planet without the enemy knowing about it would be fun (and vice-versa).
I am beginning to favor the Akkan as well. If the carrier had more fighters, it might be much cooler.
Take this with a grain of salt: The more I think about it, the more I'm convinced that perhaps another game mode would be in order -- 'galaxy mode.' Not entirely different in mechanics from the current sandbox mode, but it would have a more 'realistic' map with greater travel times (probably more demanding hardware-wise). I feel like it would be enjoyable to build an empire with an infrastructure and logistical considerations beyond just resource management. 'galaxy' mode basic
I, for one, would love to have the option of a more 'realistic' map, etc. I don't think it would ever be worth sacrificing the playability or even the current state of affairs for the map, but giving the players (many!) options, whether in a dialog, or via text-file modification, etc would be a wonderfully welcome feature. So many developers make their decisions for excellent reasons that, at the end of the day, are the RIGHT decisions. But I just love it when the developers let me as a
I have a 100% reproducable failure: I load my saved game, in which a Jump Inhibitor is being built. As soon as the inhibitor finishes, the game crashes to desktop. I have not tested this with any other save, nor have I tried loading any other games. If you need a copy of the save, let me know.
Oh, my basic hardware specs (for the devs): Windows XP SP2 AMD Athlon64 3400+ 1GB Ram GeForce 7800 GS OC 256mb AGP (not overclocked)
Quite simply, the Beta 1 release is of higher quality than what some companies release as final versions these days (at least on my hardware). I'm thoroughly impressed and am excited to be involved in contributing to the life of this product. I can already see this game being one of the games that I go back to time and time again, such as Galactic Civilizations, Space Empires, and Homeworld 2 -- mostly because in a way, it is all of those combined! First Impression: Game seems li
I submitted this to Slashdot. I hope others do as well so it gets on the front page. This is a good story and it's something that both consumers and developers need to read.
